New old guy

Post by NC Long Rifle »

Well, I lurked around on this forum for years when I was at work and should have been working. Now I'm five months into retirement (which I'm loving every minute of) and decided to register.

I've been around the block and back with muzzle loaders - building and shooting them. Loved trekking until me and all my rowdy friends just weren't rowdy anymore. I have four lever guns that I enjoy shooting and loading for (two Winchesters 94s, a Uberti Yellow Boy carbine, and a Palmetta Firearms Sharps) . Nothing carries as well as a lever gun.

I really enjoy this forum. Nice to know there are so many who think the same as me about so many subjects.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcoming!

In answer to Sixgun; I'm not particularly looking to purchase anything gun related at the moment. I do want to make more free time to enjoy the guns I have and to finish up some gun builds I've already started. Everybody told me retirement would be a busy time, but I had no idea as to how true that is. Now back to the shop to finish up that doll bed and doll wardrobe for my grand daughter's Christmas. Later...

Depends on your personality.......and how busy you were before retirement. For me personally,, ever since I was a kid....never had any extra time ...not enough hours in the day.....then I retired.....boom! Nothing but time. It took me a full year to adjust. It really sucked. It was like having ice cream everyday. People like me go out and get jobs...no brainer jobs, like Home Depot, etc.

I was determined NEVER to work again...like I said....I was always busy......first stage...say the first couple of months....is nice, like a honeymoon.

Second stage...you get bored and start drinking and if you don't catch yourself, you wind up dead.

Third stage.....you really take a good look at yourself and soul searching goes on 24/7. Lots of indecision at this stage...people try to tell you what to do..I told these people to F.Off...it's my life and I'll decide.

Fourth stage....victory! I got to victory by thinking..."if a convict can get used to a 6 x 9, I can get used to this sometimes boredom" . it worked, I go to bed when I feel like it and get up when I feel like it. Some days I don't even get dressed...play around the house in my long johns and slippers. If I feel like taking a break, I do..then get up when I want to.

Zero drinking....it leads to bad things, especially depression

The mind adjusts.....some people adjust easy...others take time. For me, it was a full year.----6
