Lil levergun sugar for your viewing pleasure

Post by Bill in Oregon »

To me, there is something magical about Christopher Spencer's timeless classic, this one in .56-50. Now THIS is a levergun! 8)

Thanks, friends. Have RCBS Legacy dies and Starline brass coming from Midway, and the .515 360-grain Lee mold from Lodgewood. Should be making some smoke by next weekend. Boy would I love to hunt hogs with this thing. A friend in Montana has taken whitetails and pronghorns with his.

Nath, come on over and you can shoot it. 8)
Here is an original .56-56 Spencer rimfire case found at an Indian War site, and a centerfire handload of the smaller .56-50, adopted in 1865. The .56 refers to the chamber diameter. The older round used a .54-caliber bullet, and the later one a .515.

Also, here is an 1873 U.S. Ordnance drawing of the original .56-56.

They are neato guns....ya done well....I've shot four of those buggers of which three were originals with the replacement breechblock for centerfire. One was a three band rifle with Civil War documentation.....what a blast....this guy even had the original (I don't know what you call them) cartridge holders in a drum....if I'm saying that right.....

At fun matches, we used to set up like fifty silhouettes and knock em down in teams of two with fastest time winning. This one team, who had two of those Spencer's complete with lots of those little cartridge holder thingys never could be beat.

One I shot, just last month or maybe two months ago....can't remember time anymore...., was an original but the guy used smokeless. Like me, he liked to shoot a lot without the burden of always wiping out the bore.----6

Your gonna have fun Bill and yes, that's a gun where I ask, because I really like it....... can I have it?

Blaine, Armi Sport, a division of Chiappa.
Sixgun, are you talking about the Blakeslee tubes that held 7 cartridges each and came in a leather-covered box of six? I'd love to shoot an original. S&S Firearms sells the centerfire breechblocks.
