I too have an original 1886 in 45-90 together with a burning desire to kill a buffalo with it. 20 years ago there were a bunch of ranchers around here who raised bison but most have got out of the business. Guess I need to ask around to find someone who still has one they wish to be rid of.

Go for it and best of luck!
There are several places that have bison for day hunting or guided hunts. Worst case, many Texas exotic hunting ranches have bison.
You can also go shoot one on the Vermejo Park ranch in NM. One of my friends shot a Yuuuge, 3,000+ pound bull there with his .45-70.

About 10 miles south of me is a buffalo farm, that do not sell animals to hunt but they do offer meat for sale.
Seems like every year some moron jumps the fence to get up close photos and then gets themselves chased, stomped or gored.
