Alternative to AARP?

Post by Joe Reilly »

I don't want to join AARP, but am looking for something comparable to benefit from a group. Is anyone here familiar with the Association of Mature American Citizens? Their website seems promising, www.amac.us .

When Obama was endorsed by AARP my Dad told them where they could stick their membership. He promptly joined AMAC.
I'm still a bit away from needing to worry about this but I'd go AMAC.

Every "benefit" AARP offers can be gotten without being a member. The main one that always attracted me was the discounts. Every time I see an establishment offering an AARP discount, I simply ask -- "Is that a senior citizen discount, or is it meant only for members of a particular political lobbying organization?" I always get the discount.

I don't need a "group" to advise me. I shop around and can usually get a better price that way. AARP car insurance was an expensive joke.

I've always looked at AARP as a shill for the insurance industry.

Most of the "deals" they offer are for stuff I don't use or can
a discount for anyway.

I FINALLY got off of their mailing list(s). It took about a year.
AARP car insurance was an expensive joke.
My point exactly........

AARP has been vocally anti-gun for a while. Only real benefit here is a discount at Denny's whoop tee doo! I just found out I can't start getting Social Security until I'm 67, that's 8 years away for me. I hope they don't run out of money.

We've belonged to AMAC for about 5-6 years, just renewed. They have discounts too, in fact it's gotten to the point that all you have to ask for is the senior discount.

Funny story. A friend who was pretty gray pretty early and I (bald since my thirties) stopped in McD's for coffee while at a soccer tournament. He was paying and they told him .87, he said no I'm paying for both. She told them that is both with your senior discount. We were 48. He didn't take it well.
