Cimarron Evil Roy Single Actions?

Post by jdad »

Do any of you have personal experience with these? They appear to be a big step above Ruger and quite a bit more affordable than a USFA.

Thanks

The ER's are nothing more than a tuned Uberti SAA with CAS style wide sights and narrowed checkered grips. but, I wouldn't say they are a step above the Rugers.
If you want tuff out of the box, Ruger is the way to go, but I don`t consider it to be a true SAA clone. The ruger lock works were designed in the 1950's-60's. It is nothing like the colt style lock basically unchanged since 1836.

Comparing Rugers to a colt SAA or Colt SAA clone is like comparing 60`s muscle cars to model T`s.

For the CAS game the Rugers own it.

Another thing about the Evil Roy's are that they use a leather "washer" under the mainspring to lighten the action. These often dry up and crack, making the mainspring loose. I've seen a couple that were water logged and ended up rusting the spring enough that it broke in competition. This is after a few years of use. They may have changed this recently, I haven't seen one break in a while. They're better tuned than the standard Uberti SA, but far from as good as a stock Ruger new Vaquero.

Thank you both. I appreciate the feedback.

So the New Vaquero is more durable, but is the action any better. I'm not looking to compete, but I do want a decent trigger for a range gun.

The NV's (and just Rugers in general) that I have handled had enough creep that it could be misconstrued as a factory safety feature.

Every Single Action Ruger I've had I did a redneck trigger job on it. Drop one leg of the spring off it's post under the grip. YMMV, but I've been happy with the results.

IMO, Another useful accessory for Ruger CF New Model SA revolvers is a free spin pawl, to facilitate loading/unloading.

I believe my 'Taylor Tuned" Uberti Smoke Wagon https://www.taylorsfirearms.com/hand-gu ... wagon.html is as close to a Colt as a non-government retiree can afford. Yes, it is superior in fit, finish and action to any of my Rugers.
