Pheasant season.....

Post by Nath »

....started last Monday.
First pheasants of this season for me today.

Took my double frontloader and I was glad I had.

The first bird ran out in front of me and lifted, flying away and right I aimed down his right and dropped the hammer.

As he crumpled another bird appeared and did a similar move.

Good distance shots around thirty yards, maybe a little more.

That's wonderful Nath. I've not hunted with a muzzle loading double in many years but really enjoyed it when I did. Those are beautiful birds and it's good to see you and Jess having such a good time. I once had a W. C. Scott & Son that I got to use quite a lot but in a fit of ignorance I traded it for a camera lens I wanted.

Great pix Nath, glad you got your furry friend and accomplice (Jess) in there!

Love the "mule ear" hammer shotgun too.

Good shooting with your front loader Nath, There are so many pheasants where I am you can flush half a dozen when taking the trash out and I'm sure the local gamekeeper would love to catch me with a smoking gun.…

Thanks everyone.
There does not seem as many this year but I think I saw some young wild birds with these cock birds.
I shall leave the hens in this bunch.
Others tend to be pen birds that have wandered into my patch.

I thanked God for the privilege and his creation.

You are making my trigger finger twitch Nath!
Next Saturday I'm working a tower shoot. We I'm not really doing anything more than playing dog handler.
My Chocolate Claro is either going to make me look real good or like a complete puts! I've never done this before...

Good shootin- keep it up and give Jess a pat on the head for me!

Those are some beautiful pheasant. If baked in a good sauce, they can be some of the best tasting meat anywhere.

An Uncle used to have a Weimaraner who would go prowl the pastures during hunting season and bring back the birds wounded by other hunters which then sneaked onto my uncles land. My uncle once went an entire season having pheasant once a week without firing a shot. He had a license, but the hunters who wound the birds without killing them and that Weimaraner kept him eating good. The Weimaraner was named Heinie.
