Marlin 1894cl 25-20

Post by Bridger »

Is $795.00 for a Marlin 1894cl in 85-90% (maybe better) condition an okay price, good price, or a steal? It's a Ducks Unlimited edition, but the only way you'd know that is because of a DU medallion about the size of a .50 cent piece embedded in the butt stock. Sweet little rifle it seems like. I might be able to get price down to $700 but not sure...

That's pretty good for my area. That rifle would be a grand at any show around here.

I really enjoy shooting the 25WCF. Very accurate and drops woodchucks in their tracks!

What 2ndovc said.

I have no practical need for it but if I had the money I would easily pay that much for it since I have a 218 Bee and a 32-20. It seems like a True Levergunner should have all three to complete the set (of 32-20 necked-down derivatives)....!

I think the bolt action shooters are still somewhat caught up in Magnum fever, but with lever action rifles there seems to be more emphasis on fun and practical, and a 25-20 levergun is a really nice mid-size, mid-power, mid-range round in a really fun package.

There's a channel on you tube called Leatherwood outdoors. Good guy, lots of very interesting average Joe hunts. Anyway, he went deer hunting with a 92 Winchester 25-20. Cleanly killed a couple doe with it using 87 gr factory loads. Got a pass through on one. With careful use its amazing what even a small caliber can do in the right hands. Practical indeed!

Back when I was growing up, I knew deer hunters that used the 25-20 and 32-20 to get their deer every year in the Michigan woods.

The 1894CL 25-20 I used to own was not a DU gun , however I bought it from a small shop in the Poconos of PA in 2002 or 2003 . Got the gun used in very nice shape for if memory serves $450 . Used it about 8 years for lever silhouette and a couple squirrels . Sold it on Gunbroker in 2010 or so and again if my memnory is correct I got about $800 . Little thing was a heck of a lot more accurate then I anticipated . Was vey good with jacketed but it really excelled with home cast Lyman gas checked .

I paid $480.00 for my Cl 32-20 about 10 years ago. like new in the box. walked in to a local shop a few years ago. there on the used rack was a Marlin Bullseye in what looked like a model 39. the clerk handed it to Me saying it's an old Cl .218 Bee, comes with 2 boxes of shells. . the hang tag said $349.00 and I bout broke My arm reaching for My wallet. These are really fine little rifles.
