Good ole'Bessy Bessy.

Post by Nath »

Just had to get out with Bessy and those huge balls.

I was after a rabbit and sadly there was very few.

I was on land that usually is crawling with rabbit but I struggled to see any!

It was sad and thought after today I shall leave them alone.

Anyway eventually and after a few miles I found one to stalk.

I got down to 27yds and levelled Bessy on the unsuspecting buck rabbit.

I had renewed the pan powder just prior as it had got damp but although the fan flashed quick there was an unusual fizz as it fused through the flashhole slower than normal. I followed through and when Bessy did spit the ball out it was on target.

It was good hunting and and the meat is in the cooler.

Guys, one could eat up to the bullet hole ( it was a substantial hole!) except errr the guts exploded!
It took some field cleaning! Thank goodness for the wetted grass!
I honoured the bunny by salvaging the best I could from it.

Sure.
I was just field testing the modified balls.

You see Bessy and me have had a difficult relationship.
Always keen to please but often failing to perform her obligations.
That all changed when I loaded her up with a fine grade of powder and rolled a .735" ball down her.
Now she shows sight of promise!

Even those sabre tooth hares would probably have a hard time charging with a hole of that size in them. Over here, our largest ones are the Jackrabbits which are really a type of hare. They sometimes get up to about 4 kilos.

I'd get lots of strange looks using a .54 Renegade for squirrel. That RB was very accurate with about 40 grains of Pyrodex P..
