Gunny....Jay has a good point on the high primer. As you know, on .223 ammo it only takes a small case mouth dimple or other minor deformity to keep it from feeding completely into the chamber. When these have happened to me, the firing pin would drop and just barely touch the primer and usually wedged the case in the chamber, necessitating a thump with the buttstock on the ground to release it and eject the load round.

If.. he had a small case deformity along with a high primer, that would have done it.

Old Savage..........I just ate a small mountain of mom's tomatoe sauce with fresh killed sausage and elbow macaroni or I'd get on my private Lear Jet and come steal yo chicken.---6

Ha ha.......right down the road maybe a quarter mile there is a three waystop sign that people run all the time. The State boys set up a sting today and this is about number 10 they have caught. They pull em over in front of my house not knowing the real criminal is only a hundred yards away. :D ---6

Good for those troopers! I tell ya IMO they don't teach people how to stop, keep right, yield or merge anymore! Here on the back roads they just ignore the rules of the road. Always on the wrong side especially on blind turns- most are small cars but boy when I ease toward them with 9000 lbs of full size pickup they beat feet real fast!!

So I found out it was NOT a high primer/slam fire. He said he was shooting and all was good until he squeezed off the one that detonated.

Free electricity is called getting up and going outside
Next closest thing would be solar panels and low voltage lights.

Gunny.....no no,on the high primer/slam fire.....I'm saying a high primer and not full chambering. The hammer will still drop and hit the firing pin but the safety mechanism keeps the firing pin from reaching the primer fully . I said earlier that if a loaded round is just a few thousandths from full chambering, the firing pin will just barely touch the primer so if the primer was high it might be enough to detonate it without full locking.----I dunno.....I ain't nobody in the R&D department.---6

Pitchy and Doc, cool stuff i've never taken time to try. Glad you posted results.
Six, 20 mile city of our own. We gonna have a paved trail around the perimeter?
GM, glad the dog is happy again. Got the 80lb block of lead cut up and melted into ingots finally saturday nite. Hands wrists and back is killing me. So i turned another 40lbs into ingots, when your sore and ornery you might as well get all the dirty work done. Bought a stainless 2 3/4" Service Six and an AR upper with lower kit. Hopefully have a gunshow to do this weekend so i can relax more and BS.

I understand where you are coming from Six, I had the same thought. My suspicion is he had a light charge of CFE223 and it detonated instead of the burn a full case would produce. But again I doubt we will ever know.

Wonder if quickload has the ability to show what light charges do?

Thanks 3legg!

Oh man...full sunshine and a steady 70 degrees ALL day with no wind. So that leads me to think......what the F am I doing here instead of testing the BAR?????......why? Because I like it here and know full well there will be twenty guys at the club and the bullshytting will take over shooting time and I won't get nothing done.

Gunny........I will never believe in detonation in small arms. Common sense tells me that an "X" amount of energy cannot be turned into "XXX" of energy.....defies physics....but.....I'm no physics guy and certainly no chemical engineer. My other Gunny buddy froze up a 700 Rem. ......ruined the bolt face.....must have been 20 guys standing around all theorizing what happened. I said, "simple, it was an overload". Naaaaaa they said, the powder is already at 99% capacity......fast forward to a month later.....new bolt and $300 later, first shot...."boooooommm!" Froze up and ruined another bolt. Whew! Was he pizzed! I was standing next to him.....I said, "same batch of ammo?" Yep.....when you get home take em apart.

Found out when he was loading his ammo he was putting the loaded rounds in his box in order as he loaded them.....the first five had full loads of Unique in them.....left in the measure from loading something else.

Well guys....keep on truckin'

I'm not sure about detonation, or flashover, or whatever you want to call it. I do, however, respect the possibility and load accordingly.
One thing is certain, most problems come back to handloading issues. I am always careful, but when loading for any gas semi-auto, I am doubly careful.
I actually avoid handloads most of the time in my military semi-auto rifles.

Six I too questioned him about an over charge/ wrong powder. I did witness a detonation while in school, was a 348 case cut down to 1.375, blew the cylinder apart, top strap tried to leave the frame of a SBH - was experimental conversion. Dont remember what powder the guy was trying out...

In this case I'm sure we will never know! I can say he is usually hot rodding his loads.

Geeeeezzzeee......I could have used that spreader. I'm all the time wheelbarrowing and dumping a little here...a little there?

I'm glad you got the old John Deere back safely after I won it last year.....then Gunny won it.......for real, no BS, it looks clean. You take good care of it.......

An adjustable fire grill! Makes sense as the wood burns down....is that a steering wheel you have there for the adjustment?

Not much better than sitting around a fire like that, eating good food and drinking beer with your buds......it's been a year since I had anything to drink and I must admit, I feel better mentally.

Oh Guuuuunnnyyyyyyy......TOMORROW is D day! What better day to take the BAR and the Garand out for a shoot fest.

Jay........I'd feel naked without a handgun of some sort on a trip like that......no doubt, I'd have one stashed. They are not going to bother a family oriented group. As you know, a pump shotgun is also a must......good luck buddy!----6

Six,

Was at a gun show last week-end and saw an 86 that kept calling my name. Half magazine, shotgun butt, pistol grip in 33Win. It had some extra holes in the action and had been refinished but very nicely. Bright shiny bore and a Redfield receiver sight. Gorgeous wood too. $995 No I didn't buy it but it really appealed to me but I already have an 86 in 45-90. I know, what's that have to do with anything?

MM....pistol grip? Was it checkered? (That's the difference between a semi deluxe and a deluxe). Either way, '86 pistol grip guns bring big bucks.....yea, had a lot wrong with it but it STILL was a deluxe.......strip off that nasty blue and rust blue it.

I would have bought that.....you probably could have had it for 9 and the sight alone is worth a buck and a half-2....Weld up the holes, polish and rust blue.

Yeah 6 it was checkered and the blue was gorgeous. Holes were plugged with screws and all looked good. I could have lived with it just the way it was. Wood was not std grade.

Oh! The shoot fest! Old Savage reminded me in a private message.

Anyway, the shoot fest......yes, the BAR did wonderful but it's still no tackdriver....it's as good or better than most bolt action varmint rifles. I had 100 rds of 150 Nosler Ballistic Tips and 50 rds. of 168 Hornady HPBT match ammo....all with H-4895.

I don't even bother at 100 meters......keep in mind it has at least a 10 pound trigger...I'll test it later when I clean it......200 meters 5 shots will stay in 2" .....about 3" at 300 meters.....4" at 385 meters ...and about the same at 500 meters. OK, it's a MOA gun.......this is with the 150 Nosler.....

The guys I shoot with will easily half those spreads with their 6.5's.

So...after 50 rounds I decide to take off the big heavy bi-pod that rides at the end of the barrel.......yea, it shot no better, maybe a bit worse with the 150's....but by then the gun was getting dirty and hot even though I was not blasting away.....5 shots...BS....5 shots.....on and on.

Then I tried the 168's and the BAR put 5 on the 500 meter ram in a tight cluster...maybe 3-4 inches.....and better on the 385 meter turkey.......no difference on the 300 meter pig or 200 meter chickens.....about the same as the 150's.

I'll clean real good and go back up next week with a hundred of the 168's.

The Garand shot grand! Cast bullets at 2200 was peppering the 200 and 300 meter steel.....

Never got around to taking the Smith Carona 03A3 out of the Jeep.....pushing 90 degrees and I wanted to go home.---6

Pitchy...you need to empty the prostate....you can build just about anything so maybe you need to put your skillls to work and build some kind of a "pleasure board" and keep it in the workshop. Make it to where you can put warm water in it.
Have no idea what your talking about but it isn`t no joke to me, what ever is going on it has moved into my hip and after sitting or in the morning when i get up i can`t walk.
I have done research on it and it is common to have hip pain with chronic Prostatitis but on the other hand ya could have cancer.
So as i appreciate your confidence in my building abilities this is something that i`m pretty concerned about but i should know better to whine about it and expect anyone's serious concern.

Gunny.....I hear ya........the match director and me were BS today and at the end of the match, we go in the club house for the awards.......I never win nothing at this long range match...in fact, I finish in the bottom half, mostly due to my choice of firearms and refusal to buy a $4,000 set up that I'd be lucky to get a grand out of if I decided to sell. I don't "spend" money, I invest it.

Anyway, after he awards 3rd place, 2nd place, 1st. place and Match Winner.....he is going to award me "first place for having the most fun".

Sorry Pitchy, did not know it was a dibilitating issue.....older guys at work used to complain about it and said it was no big deal, just annoying.---6

Thanks Six, it`s darn scary what i`m going through and as you i think seems like getting any help always ends up being a bunch of BS.
Appreciate your reply.

Pitchy,
Sorry to hear you aren't getting any relief. I can understand your concern, as I would be too. I think you are correct in researching all you can yourself in addition to seeing a doctor. I know more than one person who has greatly helped themselves with their own research.
Prayers up, buddy.

Six,
Glad you got out to shoot, buddy. 90 degrees!? WTH? We have only had one day over 70 so far.
Sounds like the old BAR is gonna be a shooter to me. A little load work and she's gonna sing real sweet!

Headed out EARLY Saturday morning. I will try and check in with you guys along the way. At work for my last night for almost a month.

Bon Voyage OldWin! Hope you guys have a fast& safe road trip!

Someone somewhere has to know how to give Pitchy some relief from his prostrate!?

Well I fished yesterday, a dozen rainbows, 5 brown trout-3 were little wild fish. Was a very enjoyable 4 hours of no cell phone service.

Nobody knows their own body like the owner. I've said earlier I lost a year out of my life due to 7 doctors and 3 ENT's not telling me to restrict my sodium intake to 1200 mg. They loved those repeat visits. The Internet may not be all true but there's a lot of truth in it.

Jay......swing by and pick me up.....I'll give ya $20 for gas and tolls.---6

Thanks guys.
Sorry Six, we're flying over you. I'd be up 20 bucks too! The gas is free on this trip!

I will actually be closer to my buddy Pitchy! Would love to stop, but the "Coastie Caravan" is headed the other way. Otherwise, you know I'd be there buddy!

As long as I have service.......and time, I will check in and post some pics.
Hope I survive the trip! If I don't......don't you guys fight over my guns...... :D
Probably why the oldest boy is staying at the house. And my dad is "checking on the dogs" twice a day. :D

Buncha vultures! :D
