I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling that good Pitchy! It's not fun when ya feel like krap.

Yes OS I'd say you are right, although I've never seen a 1911 knock a guy off a horse at a full gallop at 100 yards! :D

Well this trim job is almost over! This one has been a bear! Half a day today fitting 1 piece of crown into a completely different crown around the kitchen cabinets. We are kinda hoping they don't want the kitchen side done too- the dining/living room was bad enough!

Well Pitchy...I hate to be the one to inform you but "it's the winter". The winter destroys me mentally and it gets harder every year getting through it.....THATS why old people move to Florida or Arizona.

Take your vitamin D and lay low on the 1.75's.....Sunshine is around the corner and it can't come soon enough for me. The mind controls the body and vice versa......if one goes bad, it makes the other go bad.....once the mind clears up from all this shyt in the winter, your body will follow.

Winter used to be my favorite season.....it's now my worst.....I dread the ending of fall....---6

Well if you don't like winter there, you surely wouldn't like it here! :D
It is turning here though. Of course, we have 1-3 inches of snow coming tomorrow. :D
I don't mind winter, but it can get long toward the end.
It was fun riding the sled, but I'm ready to get into the range and get the Harley out.

I tried and can’t seem to post pictures but if one of you will pm me a way to send them, I have pics of the 93. And my gunsmith gave it the all clear tonight. He was inside it for an hour lights and cotton swabs, picks, chemicals ect. He also suggested a string on the trigger for the first few shots but his professional opinion.” Hell.. I ‘ll shoot it if you don’t want to!”

Ok FWB, let's diagnose what happens when you try to post pics.
You click on ATTACHMENTS button
The button says ADD FILES
Click on ADD FILES
Select the photo
A new box appears, PLACE INLINE and DELETE FILE buttons appear- to the far right is STATUS, as long as it's a green circle with a check mark it will upload by hitting PLACE INLINE. If however you get a yellow triangle with an ! the file is too big.

If you are getting the triangle then ya gotta resize the file. A photo editor of one sort or another is needed. If you are using a smart phone there are FREE apps for editing photos.
image.jpeg
Hey look I took a picture of a Parker and my feet are in the pic :D

Now that my phone is turned on , here (3rd one down) is the resizing app I use- there is a slight learning curve with android though.

The only thing that concerns me Tom is the "scratch" or whatever it is lines up with the mortise cut for the bolt block that runs vertically. If it is a crack, that's exactly where I'd expect it to crack. I see the mark on the lever, but not sure it's got anything to do with the line on the receiver.
I'd do as you suggested in your PM and tie it to a tire and stand well back with a string to fire it. Maybe even do so 5 times before holding it while you fire. Could also disassemble it and inspect the inside wall of the receiver to see if you see anything there also?

My gunsmith disassembled it last night he said he didn’t see anything. Used a flashlight no cracks visible, a qtip nothing snagged the fibers. a pick and nothing snagged, then put light oil at the “crack” and no seepage inside. Dunno. Gonna mark both ends with a sharpie at the ends of the crack fire a few and see what happens.

I can't see the steel used in those days cracking like that.....they were never that hard...but.....the case hardening was....I think it was when they quenched for the case hardening.........was noticed by the workers to be in an area that was not noticeable....and said, "this shyt happens once in a while...let it go through". Besides, it's not a straight crack which is what you would expect.

I bet if you spent some time searching, you'd find other rifles with the same issue....---6

You could always have it magnafluxed or whatever they call that process....so you pay a couple of hundred and keep the signed results for a future sale.

It sure looks like a crack but if oil doesnt seep in it could very well be a surface flaw. If that were my $100 gun I'd spend some more money and have it magnafluxed just to satisfy my own curiosity.
Heck even if it is cracked you can always hang it on the wall- not like you spent a grand or better for it.
Tom, glad to have helped you get pics posted! So I get your 'cracked' rifle as payment for tech support right??!!

Again thanks Gunny. No you can’t have it Sixgun East! I was browsing GB yesterday anyway and a fellow in Missouri had a Model 93 receiver for sale. It is a about a thousand units after mine and he was open to an offer sooo. I am sending a check and a copy of my buddy’s FFL tomorrow. I will still have less than $200 in a shooter if this one doesn’t pass the magnaflux test. My heart says it’s not a crack, it’s not a crack, my head says of course it’s a crack you azzhole. My bottom line is would I pay $200 for a non matching number shooter grade 93 in 32 HPS? Dam straight and be happy to get it soo it’s all good’ish.

Heck of a score no matter what!

Hey Gunny...looks like an ad in a magazine don't it?--6

Went down to the gunshop today and picked up a set of 1" rings that fits to a grooved receiver....so....Iput a 2x7 Leupold scope on a model 63. Dialed it in at 50 yards then went up in the loft where my "benchrest" is ..shot ten rounds. and put 7 shots in and inch and a quarter....three others made it 2 and a half..not bad for a rifle made in '31. At the handgun silhouette match this Saturday we are going to have a try out for a new style of silhouette shooting...half scale animals to 200 meters..off the bench...

The ramrod told a few of us to bring 22 rifles......nothing would make me happier than to beat the snobby rich guys with $3,000 Anchutz rifles with a huntin' rifle from the hills.---6

The wife says it looks like something right out of the hills of Tennessee. Is that what Bubba uses to go to church with?

Ugh, 0430 and my eyes were wide open... not sure why, just woke up 45 minutes earlier than normal.
Well today should be the end of the crown moulding job. 5 peices left to install. I gotta remember to take a couple pics!

The hunting &fishing club I belong to is stocking our section of the river this afternoon, 250 +/- rainbows & brown trout( no Six not that kind of brown trout), gonna be raining most of the day. Tonight is our annual Dinner. Tomorrow is opening day of trout season.

Six that Rube Goldberg thing is a DRAG BAR- see how its squatting? All that steel is dragging the suspension down !

It is actually a 2002 EZGO, used hard and put up wet.... A LOT! That was a strange contraption. I think it was some sorta wire pulling equipment. Had this reel of cable on the left side with the Honda engine powering it.

I've gotten rid of that, and am using the Honda to power the 2nd cart. Someone had removed the stock engine, and for some, the Honda repower is a popular upgrade.

Paint and new seats are next. Then build a gun rack where golf clubs used to go, and no more humping guns and cans of ammo all over the range or hunting lease! A top to keep my delicate complexion out of the Texas sun will be required!

Just to be clear, I've never seen a cracked 1893/93 Marlin receiver either. I've owned dozens, and looked at hundreds, but never a cracked one. And casehardening is very thin at about ten thousandths deep, but remember this area is the thinnest part of the receiver where the block mortise is, and they aren't just casehardened on the outside surface. So it's inside and out that is hardened.
Since your gunsmith has checked it, and given it his blessing, I'd feel comfortable it's not a crack. Likely a scratch, and not a forging mark though. Forging marks don't normally go vertically on these old guns, they go longitudinally. I see longer actions like 1881 Marlins, and 1886 Winchesters with longitudinal forging marks. But never seen a 1893/93 Marlin or an 1894/94 Win. with forging marks or striations.
Sounds like you did very well Tom, and got a Marlin with some nice case colors too! Another great Cabelas screw up in your favor!

Griff....whoa...you set me up! That second pic phucked me up! I see you changed A LOT.....the cut out fenders with the Jeep/pick up style flares looks great. Suspension looks new! The Ruby Goldberg contraption is gone....ahhh.....maybe you should have left it on and just taken the motor off....would have held two half kegs with room for ice underneath.

After it's painted and a new seat well, can I have it?---6

Last 5 peices of crown moulding done by noon today. Here is what we were dealing with. The white stuff is new, 2 peices, the cherry is existing around the cabinets.

Gunny....you must be a man of patience......intricate mounding is not for me...I'd just split a 2x4 lengthwise and nail it up with 20 penny nails....

I spent the better part of the day trying to find a better load for the 629 Classic I'll be using at the match tomorrow.....5 rds of this 'n that....30 rds. altogether....out in the back yard at 50 yards....chronographed everything.....and guess what I found out?

I found out that nothing comes close to my original load I've been using....7.5 231 and a .431 Hensley and Gibbs 210 grain that I cast. Even with my old eye I'm keeping them in 3" at 50 yards.....the match tomorrow!

Miss Twinkles thinks she's going too.---6

It sure looks like a crack but if oil doesnt seep in it could very well be a surface flaw. If that were my $100 gun I'd spend some more money and have it magnafluxed just to satisfy my own curiosity.
Heck even if it is cracked you can always hang it on the wall- not like you spent a grand or better for it.
Tom, glad to have helped you get pics posted! So I get your 'cracked' rifle as payment for tech support right??!!
It's a darn fine looking rifle too!!
+1!
