I have one of those to Six but its narrower than the Garand sling.
Yep we had about two inches of snow all winter then got 14 inches last night, wet heavy stuff too.
Actually we had more snow than that earlier but it melted down to about two inches.
Norma rang the dinner bell so had to run.
Yep Jay i agree. :)

Seems fair but 1 condition- whoever gets the JD must wait until spring to pick it up. Pitchy has to be able to clear snow!

Holy smokes! I take a couple hours off and all my buds are taking up sides! Looks like a full blown skirmish! :D
Now, I am surely humbled that old Six wants me to join him......And I ain't gonna lie, those Colts and Pitchy's old JD are mighty tempting......... :D
But NO! I won't stand against my friends. :D
Besides, I gotta stay friendly with you all, so when I come to visit with my buffalo coat nobody suspects me. :D

Umm Six see my post before- those 2 are the REAL HOLES!!

Oh great! Well I woke up feeling better this morning. Eyes open at usual 0515. Feel like I have a brick in my throat but I hacked it up easily. Blow my nose and snot actually comes out- hey this is much better . So I take the girls out just in time to see the green glow/flash of power lines off in the distance . Sure enough the generators in the neighborhood start coming on. Oh hey they are shutting down. Aw stuff starting back up. So back in the house , feed the girls , into the garage open the door to get my genny out. Come on BLACK RIFLE COFFEE!
Call electric company- should be back by 9...yeah right !

Then the next day.........

HONEST MAN ON TRACTOR WITH SAFE FULL OF GUNS, FLEEING BAD MEN, MAKES A MISTAKE BY STOPPING IN LOCAL TAVERN. COMES OUT 3 HOURS LATER AND FINDS MAN WITH BIG BUFFALO COAT WITH SAFE AND TRACTOR HEADED NORTHEAST TOWARDS NORTH JERSEY TO MAN IN WOODS WITH THREE PLOWS AND KILLER DOGS.

Could be but that was before and there are some parts of before that I don't recall but a young feller like you well might. Haven't shot that one in almost 30 years. Hits right where the sights says it does or did.

Sooooo Gunny.....your turning Pitchy's loss of his guns and the John Deere into fun and games with that guy with the Buffalo coat. You and Jay gonna knock out some birds with your furry buddies. Hear that Pitchy???? :) :D

Ok, on to business.......for the last several months I've been pretty much of a recluse, enjoying it more and more. Our last match at the gunclub in October?...ended with me being disgusted with a $600 scope.....so....I decided it was more fun to hang with you boys....then.....then...........my BIL calls my wife to tell me that there is a long range match tomorrow......Shyt! My 700 Remnington sniper in .308 is still leaning against the bench with the busted scope.......OK, ......I have a truckload of rifles with open sights in obsolete calibers that shoot lead bullets......not good for 200-500 meter work.

Got a few other bolt guns but nothing is dialed in for precise shooting......but, what the hell, I'll grab the Colt 6940 AR with a 2x8 Nikon......it's dialed in but it's still tough to compete with guys who have $3000 rifles in 6.5 Creedmore with $2,000 scopes.

I'll finish last ....but I need to get out of here...----6

Just a thought Jack...
For your match rifle sight in 2 different scopes then if one goes south just put the backup on and you are good to go. Yeah I understand not everyone has extra glass- I know I dont but if you have an extra make use of it.

Excellent idea Gunny.......and I agree if...........the scope is a 10 cent Tasco, Bushnell or some other junk. This was a $600 vortex I bought new last year.....I've got other GOOD scopes I could pull off of other rifles and I must have 10 more laying around here that are unattached...mostly 4x or 3-9x weavers, etc..even a couple of 2-7 leupolds but this game requires you to have at least 9x as we are shooting half scale silhouettes out to 500 meters......most guys use 16x to 36x. Out to 300 meters about any thing will work.....the need to pinpoint your crosshairs comes in at the 385 meter turkeys which have a "kill area" of about 6"....

Ahhhh, we ain't winning cadillacs.....to win this game, a score of 35 x 40 or better is needed. No one has had a 40 x 40 yet....one 39. Last time I used an AR I got 16x40.....All wobbly on the rest, 5 lb trigger on a rifle with a 16" barrel (M-4 style)---6

By the way, it's not true "benchrest shooting" we are allowed to have a front rest but no rear bag.

I heard good and not so good about vortex stuff. I'll stick with my leupolds. I only have 1 scope with more than 14x and it's a 30 yr old Simmons, now it's on my 22-250 , last I shot it it was still a 1/4" gun. Rem 600 Mohawk, Douglas air gauged and bastogne thumb hole. Kilt a lot of prarie dogs.

Wow ....600 action! My 22-250 has eaten up about 2,000 rds of 36 grains of 4064 and a 53 gr. Sierra BRHP....it's a solid 3/4" gun. ---The Count

Ah piles of snow, yup that takes me back to when I worked at the lumber yard. Had a mulch bin that was about 200 cu yards. One winter I had filled that bin front to back left to right and as high as I could get it. Not to mention the other piles around the yard.

Well despite the sinus infection we bird hunted yesterday, The girls are hunting well together, Parker has a lot to learn yet. She is finding birds pointing flushing on her own, still learning how to pick up and carry a bird though.
This morning we found 2 chukar and 6 pheasants, myself and 2 other guys got 7 out of 8 birds. Well Claro grabbed a chukar, she saves me ammo!

I have the cheap Tasco on my Rem 700 in 7RM, a cheap Weaver on the 375 Marlin and a Vortex 6-24 on the 24" bbl'd AR in 5.56... The Vortex is clearly the superior of the others.

I go to the match today and I see everyone has been making major inroads into their duties and hobbies........Jay cleaning out the garage.....I gave you inspiration didn't I?

"The Gunny" hit a home run with Claro. ......Parker will catch up.......some have the brain speed of lightning.....some like molasses in a Maine winter.......pretty much like people......I'm lightning and others like they live in Maine.....(not Jay)

Pitchy played in the snow and made some mighty fine piles...you have to admit Pitchy, playing in the snow with a kick azz tractor is play...it's not work.....shoveling the area around your woodstove and walkways is work. Your grandson playing with the new gumball machines? He will have to wait another week or two before you empty out another bottle so you can make another....very nice bottles you use. :D

I go to the match today with an M-4 Colt AR with a 16" barrel and a 8x Nikon.....up against the best...one guy with a 6.5 Creedmore shot a 39x40. A few other guys made it into the thirties. I shot a 21 and considering the equipment I was using against steel targets you can barely see with the naked eye, I was pleased.

For real..no BS.....the guy on the next bench to me was one of the better shooters who has been trying for the elusive 40 x 40. When the command was given to fire your five round string, this guy started gagging. After the two minute signal came on to stop shooting, this guy looked at me and said, "damm, I had the crosshairs perfectly on the ram and then this ungodly smell made me gag...and I missed the ram!" I pleasantly thanked him for his recognition of my four egg breakfast.----6

Great job on the gumball machines, Pitchy. You still got it. :D

Six,
That was some quick thinking on how to eliminate the competition. Few pickled eggs for a snack, and you clean up. There's more than one way to win a match.
I bet you could beat me without the eggs. :D
I can't shoot like that.

Noooo...you guys got it wrong. I never had any intention of being anywhere near the top as I knew from the git go I had no chance....kinda like the Volkswagen entering a racing contest against a Corvette....I was just having fun.......and being "brotherly" by sharing.....from my azz to his nose. My brother in law, who was shooting on the same bench as me also congratulated me as the wind was blowing away from him, he still got a nose full. Thanks anyway guys...makes me proud!---The Count

Gunny....don't think I ever had a sinus infection so I can't feel your pain.......what does it do? Clogged up? Painful? I do know when something hurts me I talk about it so you must be in agony. Wish the best for ya.....

My instructions for you today are:

Take 2 Parker Invincible Grade 9's ......one in 20 ga. and one in 12 ga., , wait four hours and take one Winchester Model 21 in trap grade...(.410) .......and wash it down wth a pint of Wild Turkey 101.

Throughout my life there was nothing quite as exhilarating as coming into a high condition 1873, 1886, or a 1 st. gen. single action Colt , holding it my hands, alone, with a glass of good bourbon 🥃 about 5 fingers high and knowing you have the next day off, free of any duties. You tend to forget about any maladies in the world....for a moment anyway....----The Count

Hey guys,

Gunny, I've had sinus infections. Not Fun!
One that sticks in my mind. I was away at school my freshman year and was in really bad shape. Couldn't stay in my dorm cause we had shop that day and I couldn't miss it. Been like that about a week and of course was too tough (stupid) to go to the Doc's.
I was running a Bridgeport when all of a sudden my face went POP! Felt like my whole race was sliding off. This brown and green puss just gushed out my nose. Could have filled a coffee cup. Yeah, worse than it sounds.
Boy, I felt better after that. :D

Six,
Around here I call it "That new gun smell". Nothing like it. Must be what a drug addict feels like. If it's a really good one, it lasts for a few days. :D

Jay......damm......don't think I had anything like dat....I had pus and all but that was coming out of the one eyed snake....(no, joking)........

Good thing you started wearing that great big furry coat...keeps you warm and away from colds and all.......not to mention the fringe benefits ......

Yea...."new gun smell"....unlike a new car smell or a nasty fart, it never goes away......---TC

Got the Dillon cranked up this afternoon. Loading some .38. Then on to .357.......maybe some 45acp.......gotta do some 30-30....... :D

I never had anything as bad as that! Yuck!!!
Every winter I get a sinus infection or bronchitis. This time is a real doozy- light headed & dizzy for 5 days. Otherwise I'm healthy as a horse except for all my joints hurting.
Six I DO have a Parker A1 Grade 8- she is learning how to pheasant hunt!!

New gun smell- haven't smelled that in a while, not bought anything NEW in a few years...
Just had a nice nap. Gotta take the girls out for a tinkle.

Hey! Thanks for the reminder! I do have some 44 caliber cast bullets that need to be sized and some deer jerky that needs to be sent......for real bro.......f o r g o t .......my gunroom is a disaster as 99% of my efforts have been in the garage.....I'm funny like that....can't move on to another project until the first one is done proper.

Hey there! This is NOT MEANT TO BE FUNNY....this old buddy of mine dropped over the other day with this postcard dated 1912 from Florida. He let me take a pic of both sides. Goes to show you the culture of the old days. Today, something like this would get you five years in the big house. The Count

It's titled, "Free Lunch in the Everglades"
