Actually it was using the chamber brush that made me buy the plastic thingy to hold the bolt back, bore cleaning not a problem.
I`ve seen those five rounders, i`m good i`ll just put one in at a time of the light loads your sending.

Jack my 22-250 is standard 1:12. Back in '91 the fast twist wasnt 'normal' .
One of the guys in class used 303 British for a .22 wildcat. That would push 55s ok but anything lighter would vaporize in the bore. Well over 4000 fps.

Pitchy,
The bolt should stay back on its own...same as the M1-A. For the BAR, because it was originally designed to fire from an open bolt, I have to stick a wooden dowel between the bolt face and the receiver ring.

When you pull it back, it's that little extra "ooomph" and the bolt will stay put.---6

Maybe I'm reading your words wrong...dunno

Thanks Gunny.....1-12 great for most shooting. My 22-250 will handle the 63 grain Sierra semi spitzer as the longest bullet before erratic performance kicks in. Back in those days, anything longer than a 55 gr. BT was just not thought of.

All three of my m4's along with a couple of Sporter 2's have the 1-7 twist and LOVE the 69 gr Sierra's. I buy them by the 500 pack. A couple,of years ago a buddy gave me mmmmmmm. thinking.....somewhere around 5,000 Remington 50 gr and 55 gr. fmj. I'll load up 4-500 at a time then blast the hell out of them out to 500 meters....funny thing, the much more expensive 69 match bullets don't shoot a whole lot better.----6

Yea...when things are quiet, he must be busy. He could be bulldozing a new off ramp from the expressway to our new town. He has a big d9 with a cigar hanging out of his mouth plowing over everything in his path aaaallllll the way to Colt Lane. ---6

My 1:7 varmint upper really likes 77s a whole lot more than 69 grainers. My 1:9 carbine likes 55-62s. I loaded up about 3000 during odumbo's first 4 years, a mix of 55,62 & 77s just so I had MORE ammo on top of a few cases of IMI. Then during to possible Hildabeast win I loaded up a couple thousand 308 on top of my Hertenberger supply. Thankfully I haven't needed any of it yet!
I was packing 200 rounds of 223 in food storage vacuum bags, push the button on my vacuum packet and suck the air out and WALA battle packs! Except the ballistic tips kept poking through...

Im here guys.
First, the marble stairway is really neat, Pitchy. Good work.
Cool on the NM op-rod on your M1. Thats a high dollar part nowadays.

Six,
We ain't no where near the interstate, buddy. :D
A tar road goes by though. Modern as can be!

No deer for us. Saw deer, had a great time, killed a tree. Never saw any bucks, though.
Had a great time with my son and my dad.

Boy I had a tough day hunting yesterday! I actually ran out of ammo! I missed 5 or 6 pheasants!!!
This morning Claro and I are going to try again, hopefully I can redeem myself.
This afternoon I'm going to take Parker out and try to get her on a couple birds. Since she showed no fear with shotgun noise the other day and I know she loves pheasant smell she just needs to learn how to hunt, I'm sure she will figure that out fast.

Sorry bud. Sounds like my deer season. Our buddies across the stream got three......us, 0. :D
Had a great time, though. It's great to hunt with my dad and son.
Hope you have better luck today, Gunny.

Thanks Jay me too! On the other hand it's great to be out with the dog! She loves to hunt probably more than I do :D .

We had 2.49" of rain last night! Frost in the ground caused enough runoff that the local rivers are over the banks.

Here at the hunting property running Claro and she is soaked. The water is just flying off her feet as she retrieves her dummy.

Wow. I hate rain in the winter!
Not real cold here today. Has been, though. Another 5-8" coming Tuesday.
May run up to the lot to retrieve the ice shack today.
Never got a chance to clean the leaves out of the gutters this fall. As soon as all the leaves were down, it started snowing.
The house isn't too bad, but the garage gutters are scary. :D

I hope you guys aren't terribly offended that I don't feel sorry for y'all's huntin' problems in the least. Just finished a 3 week ordeal of tunneling under the house to replace all the sewer lines, new aerobic septic system... and installing a new kitchen sink, new garbage disposal for Momma, 3 new bathroom faucets. The worst part... listening to Moma complain about having to use the porta-potty in the driveway in the middle of the night! I'm hitting the road in a week while they're supposed to be installing the new shower in the master bath... Although I do have to remove the current wall paper, popcorn ceiling and repaint before they're done. That'll take the joy out of the new shower! :P  :(

Wow Griff. Yeah.......none of that sounds fun at all.
I hate spending money on stuff like that.
I always think,
"I could have bought a nice 86 for that."
"That would have got me a nice 92 carbine."
But, I did have enough for a buffalo coat........so it all worked out. :D

Boy Griff I think you WIN! :D
I had a better day this morning, Claro hunted her usual great this morning- we got 3 chukar. Then I came home to get Parker and went back to put her on pheasants.
Guess what?

THAT DOG WILL HUNT!!!
Let her flush a rooster, kinda startled her but she didnt freak out. On to the next bird, found it smelled it pushed it with her nose. It ran ,was tackled then next thing I knew it was covered with Lab spit. She didnt hardly disturb a feather! Then she flushed a rooster and i flubbed the shot! I cant seem to hit a rooster lately!?
We then walked around more looking for others but no soap until we got back to where we started from. She flushed a hen and i made the shot!
Now i just have to get her to RETRIEVE!!!!! Guess she needs to hunt with Claro and learn what's required.
I'm a happy camper either way!

Dang! I love that boy! I think he could possibly be my son when I was in Maine one time, about 50 years ago. I was 14 at the time.....naaaaa. For real, back when my kids were in school, mom demanded this and that for the kids and I said, whoa! I can get an 86 for what you want, and they are just clothes, laptops, etc.

ok, sorry about this, but as a member of the executive council, I demand we have new nominations for wild food gatherers at Freedom. Looks like Gunny don't know which end of a shotgun is what and the only thing Jay can bag is a tree. (By the way Jay, was that a long drag back to camp?)

Yea u guys know, there won't be no Costco nearby.

Griff is a tunnel rat. He thinks he is still in Vietnam tunneling his was to the gold mine. Griff, my sympathy is with you. After you spend 10 years worth of savings for luxuries around the house, your still a nobody....at least I am. Did this..did that....and the only thing I hear is "when are you bums all gonna live together in that new town,....I'll help you pack. .....and when you get there, go stick your d--- in a tree knot" :D

This one is for Griff....back when I had connections to the s&w factory, one of the big shots there brought this down from the factory just for me....a 629 44 mag, fixed sights, bobbed hammer, ebony grips.....but he did make me pay for it..it's at 6 o'clock.he called it a Tunnel Rat

Roadkill here is, considered the “freezer section” this time of year. Pitchy how about a MASH Nurse in the box? They were as tough as most of the guys. Just got done at a gunshow, didn’t sell a whole lot and bought even less. Some nice older stuff to look at tho. One I really wanted was a 1891 Argentine Mauser rebarreld in 257 Roberts, just a good looking gun done by and older gunsmith. Todd/3leg

I hear ya Todd! Yea, you fit right in with the rest of us misfits. :D maybe it's the Minnesota/Pennsylvania/Maine air. As for Gunny, in New Jersey, the politics says it all. But, Gunny is in the affluent and nice area of Jersey so he is exonerated from their politics.

I've heard of it but never been there. I spend as much time as possible here in the NW part of the state. I used to go saltwater fishing often but it's too darn expensive anymore.

Pitchy,
At the show I went to last week there were at least a dozen Garands.....prices were from 12 to 4 g's. Garands are very hot right now and even import marked ones are going for 12 and more. Back in the nineties this other guy I knew who worked for a gun distribution company was telling me that they got in several thousand Garands from Korea. I told him to pick me out a nice one which he did and it set me back $300. I had it for a while then sold it for 3 to 4. can't remember. Carbines were bring 2

I see them all the time...you want another? But I don't get out as much as I used to.

This coming weekend there is a kick azz show in Allentown where there will probably be 50 Garands or more. You hear that Gunny and Tom?....interested in getting together? I'll go if the weather is decent as I don't drive in snow or major rain.---6

I will probably stick with the one M1 I have. I don't really need another one......but if a nice Winchester came along I'd dump my H&R.

Six,
Yeah, I never go to shows anymore. Years ago, I hit em all up here. Then I got thinking about what I actually bought........nothing.
I think over a ten year span, I bought one 94 38-55 rifle. Sold it a couple years later.

I haven't been to a show in a few years, was at Oaks.Way back in '97 we were on the way home from Oaks missed our exit off the PA turnpike for Allentown. Had to go another 30 miles or so to get off. I had fair knowledge of that area so my buddy and I are driving along on Rt 209 and WHAM! Some dumb broad ran a stop sign and we Tbone her at 50!! I take center console in the ribs, cant breath, seat belt stuck, door wont open. I use my Spyderco to cut the belt and crawl out drivers side window which exploded on impact. The dumbazz broad went Dukes of Hazzard off the road into a field. There she is behind the wheel bleeding from her head- first words out of her mouth
I dont have any insurance.
Then we notice a little kid in the back seat, no car seat, no seat belt.
That's the one and only time I've experienced airbags deploying and I dont want to do it again!

I haven`t been to a gun show in years never feel good enough, if i could i`d go to one and find another Garand myself.
Thing is if someone else buys one for ya and you don`t like it then there`s hard feelings so that`s why if i get one i`ll probably take my chances with CMP that way i have no one to blame but myself.
Question, if any of you bought one from the CMP would ya buy a service grade or go with the completely refurbished one that has new stock, barrel ect....

This is a option also but in 308.

CMP Special (.308) M1 Garand. This is a completely refurbished rifle consisting of an original M1 Garand Winchester receiver, new production Criterion barrel, new production American Walnut stock and handguards, and new web sling. Receiver and most other parts are refinished USGI, but some parts may be new manufacture.
Receiver will have considerable pitting above the wood line.
A .308 spacer block is installed to prevent the loading of a .30-06 round into the chamber. $1250

Morning Lenn!
I would think if you want one to shoot, .308 would be the way to go. My son is going with .308 when his needs a new barrel.
At first blush, the rebuild sounds pricey. But, M1 prices in general have gotten pretty steep. And, it's built by people who know what they are doing. This same thing done by Fulton Armory (someone I trust) is over 2k!
The more I see, the better the deal I think you got on yours. :D

That 1250 is very reasonable if ya ask me! Heck I just questioned a buddy about doing a rebarrel job for me and its gonna be close to 8 or 900!

Well it was 44ºF and a North wind here last nite, today it's on to concrete work... replace the front porch, walk and the rear patio, then it'll be the new, improved, and vastly enlarged parking pad, for both cars and the Rose & my son's big truck... visitors will still have to park on the grass... maybe next year I can go hunting...

Now see if we were all in Freedom we would all be pitching in. Jay and I holding up shovels, Lenn on patrol , Griff doing the actual work and along about 3 ol' Sixgun would show up to inspect the job. :D .
That's one thing I really dont care for is concrete work. I can do it but I really dont enjoy it!

Ah gotcha- doing your squirrel impression! Good luck & I hope you get a big-un ! I might just go sit in a tree myself, I haven't shot a deer in a few years.
