Have you heard about SouthWest Airlines?

Post by GunnyMack »

They are now allowing service animals in the cabin- including service mini HORSES! As well as dogs and cats.

I can see it now someone's service dog gets bored and decides to chase a service cat around the cabin which makes the mini horse panic which makes the cat go psycho. The cat lands on a flight attendants face sinking claws in flesh, the mini horse by now has kicked a few seats loose, spraying road apples all over. Meanwhile the dog realizes it was bad, goes back to its person and curls up acting innocent.

Anyone who can afford an airline ticket, needs a little inconvenience in their lives.

Given how much I travel by air, I think I'd look forward to the animal smells... compared to the human ones I need to put up with!

I experienced it first hand when the lady across the isle from me had hers. They are required to stay inside their kennel and her dog barked all the way from Kansas City to Dallas. I was not a happy camper!

I know this thread started out as a joke but, I see some misconceptions. Real service dogs are "socialized" and actually are no problem in public, they don't bark. A close friend has the need of a service dog (a real service dog that is registered as such) and was getting a new one from Denver, and his wife had a 4 day hassle trying to get the dog on an airplane to Oregon (he cannot travel by plane). She paid a full passenger fare, but the airline restricted her to one seat only, the bulkhead seat. I understand all the jokes, and some are funny, but a real service animal, registered (don't know the agency that certifies the animal's training) is much less trouble than a squaling brat, or a 500 lb smelly woman, with waaay too much cheap perfume in the seat next to you. BTDT! all the way from Miami to NY.

There was one guy in our church that claimed his Chihuahua that ran around yapping, wearing a frilly dress was his "service dog". He "said" it was his service dog but had no proof of any training. Finally he was asked to leave the dog in the car...

I think I'll get me a crocodile and name him Trump and call him my service pal...

One of the unintended (aren't there always some) of the ADA is that people who have no need of things like service animals have abused it. And, no one is going to question them for fear of being sued.

It used to be you'd at least see a vest that said service animal on the critter. Today that isn't even seen. I was at a local county fair and a man with a "service animal" was having trouble controlling it. The dog had a muzzle and anti bark collar on. The animal was very aggressive and the security folks both private and law enforcement would do nothing. While far from an expert, I've never seen a device to stop a dog from barking or biting that had been properly trained, and then certified.

Back in college, I rode the bus that was part of the college's fees. A blind female student often rode the same bus. She had a guide dog, and it was perfectly trained. One day some male student got on the bus and kicked the dog as he went past. The dog yipped once and did not do anything else. I started school at that college while on terminal leave as an 11B. I missed my usual stop and got off when the jerk who kicked the dog got off. He had a rather bad day from that point on. However, he never kicked the blind girl's service dog again. I didn't know the blind girl and never did speak to her. She never knew that someone had fixed it so that she was safer than before. The jerk who had kicked her dog looked as if he had received four wall counselling against brick walls. It was quite apparent for a couple of weeks that he had found out that he was not as tough as he thought he was. No one else was willing to bother her for the rest of the school year.
