using octagonal barrel as a club

Post by mickbr »

This is not an entirely serious post, I let a friend of mine handle my rossi 92 with 24" octagonal barrel. He remarked he thought lever actions were meant to be light, you could use this as a club. I said levers are sometimes light but this is copying an older barrel design. Then I thought he is right, if I did run out of bullets this would make a pretty mean self defence implement

If it’s a 357, they are very muzzle heavy. The 45Colt isn’t too bad. Alsways wanted an octagon 357 and shorten it to 18”.... Todd
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

250 Savage... its what the 223 wishes it could be...!

A few months back I almost purchased a Rossi 92 stainless with a 24" octagon barrel at a pawn shop. DEFINATELY a HEAVY gun. I reluctantly put the gun back in the rack because I had just purchased another rifle earlier that week. I went back on payday and it was gone! I should have hit savings, it was only priced at $450!

I have a Rossi .357 with the 24" barrel, just right for shooting silhouettes, nice and nose heavy for a steadier hold.

Well, I'm pretty sure if you were butt stroked by my 1895 GS you'd take notice.

The small oct. barrel is from a Marlin 1893 in 38-55 and I would not like to be whacked with it. Now, how would you like to be whacked (I like that word, Donald uses it) with the 30" heavy oct. barrel from the 1881 Marlin. ---6

As I understand it Rossi is making a 16", a 20" and a 24"... I want one of each.

I forgot to mention yes its a 357, I got the 24" barrel as its the longest barrel to keep noise away from my ears. It is front heavy but it has grown on me, and as others point out is easy to stabilise.

The Rossi version is sort of a copy in that it is octagon. But, it is a straight octagon where the original had a tapered oct. I have some 24" win 92's in 32-20. Even though the bore is smaller they are considerably lighter than the Rossi 24" octagon 357's. The taper makes a big difference.

I have a 94 in .38-55 with a 26" half round. That 'half' really lightens her up, she's just about seven and a half pounds.
