Dog died yesterday.

Post by piller »

We had 4 dogs who stayed inside until last night. Both PillHer and I were at work when it happened. We have had Sparkle Diamond since she was 8 weeks old, and she was one of those dogs who could figure out how to get out of almost anywhere. She always returned home, and appeared to be laughing at her latest adventure. Most of the time she would go visit some of the kids in the neighborhood. She also loved to sleep on my or PillHer's lap whenever she could. She used to jump up onto our bed and sleep with us at night. As she got older, the jumping started to become too hard for her.

Yesterday evening, our Son was home. He said that Sparkle Diamond suddenly got up and emptied her bladder on the floor. He was surprised since she doesn't really do that, and it was a large amount. She ran to the back door and whined to go out. He let her out, and she made two steps past the door when she collapsed, back legs first. He said she immediatly let out a sound that was sort of a groan, and that was it. She was almost 15 years old. As far as dogs go, she was a lot of fun and love. She never met a stranger, just new friends. Even though we have a rat terrier, a chihuahua, and a half grown Irish terrier still in the house, it won't be the same without her. She was the leader of the pack. She also led the other dogs to trouble or mischief, then got back quickly as if she were trying to pretend that she had nothing to do with it. All of us are sort of at loose ends this morning.

Deepest condolences! Those that aren't pet people will never understand how much dogs ( or cats) actually mean to us.

That's tough. We grow so attached to them. I feel for your son, that had to be gut wrenching. My sincere condolences.

Sorry to hear your sad news but at least you gave her a loving home in return for all the love she gave your family, you can't do anymore than that.

Sorry Brian,

A lot of us here know how tough that is. We lost our Dane Lucy a little over a year ago and there's still days I expect to see her lounging on the couch.

Everyone of them take a piece of us with them when they go, but we are far luckier to have had them in our lives.

Piller, sounds like she only had a few moments before she was gone. A dog's greatest gift -- after being capable of endless and loyal love -- is never worrying about what the next moment will bring.
You are blessed to have three more at home, instead of an empty house. I hope your son is coping with this all right.

Yep. At least the end was brief and probably not too painful for the dog.

Thanks to all. We are still sort of in shock. I caught myself putting food in her dish just a few minutes ago. Having the other 3 around helps, but they all know that she is missing, too.

Sorry to hear about your loss, Piller. It sucks losing our furry buddies.

My screen is getting all blurry reading this, knowing that time is approaching very quickly for my buddy as well.

Yes, so sorry for your loss...

Lost my girl early May and it was one of the "toughest days" for sure...

It will get better, but it does hurt (even now, if I dwell on it...)
