Some pictures from Lake Erie

Post by 2ndovc »

The weekend before last there was a gathering of Tall Ships in Sandusky Bay, just a few miles to the west of us. Bubbles and No. 1 Stepson had a great time visiting the six ships. We had a two hour sail/ motor tour around the bay on a schooner named the Appledore IV out of Bay City, MI. The wind just wouldn't cooperate, but we had a great time anyway.
I wanted to share a couple of pictures.

Ahhhhh Sandusky! :) Cedar Point and Kelley's Island. My two favorite places when I was a kid growing up outside of Cleveland! :D

Nice pictures. I like the sailboats. Only been on 1 ever, and it was a homemade one that one of the Professors at the Community College in the town I grew up in had made. It was a single mast and only about 30 feet long. It handled Canton Lake in Oklahoma as if it were in a swimming pool. The day we went was slightly windy, and the bass boats had to stay off the water.

I would love to spend a day on one of the bigger sailboats on larger water.

It's amazing how those little yellow ducks just grow & grow when let loose in the world...…………..

Maybe they eat all the plastic garbage that floats around in the world's waters.

It has, but I haven't been there in for many years. Not a big fan of crowds and I hate roller coasters, but it was fun when we were kids.

Are they still hauling that darned duck around. I was hoping someone would put a few rounds through it and give it a proper funeral. Stupidest thing I've ever seen at a Tall Ships event.

It's just a gimmick. Gets the average goofball out of the house and raises money at the event. Which, in turn raises money to keep the Old Girls afloat and for the harbors that host the event. it's goofy, but so what? I know that event made a lot of cash for the City. That's not a bad thing. Downtown Sandusky was a ghost town for many years. It's coming back big time and that's a good thing around here. By the way, the Niagara did accidently sink it a couple of years ago off Erie, PA. If that makes you feel better. :D
