This woke us up this morning ...
... it was that close to us:

We've decided we need to get out of this city, there's been at least 12 maybe 15 shootings in this area since we've been here.
So far we've not been impacted by any of them, but .....

Yes, Joe, get the hell out of that jungle ASAP. Leave it to the knuckle draggers, man. There are so many options.

Good one, Joe! Seriously, though, glad you're OK and hope you stay OK!
Have you hugged your rifle today?

Stay safe. It may be time for you to move to another state.

The sad thing is it's only going to get worse...........I remember when cities and local communities were relatively decent and clean turn to poverty, decay, and trash.
Like others have said in so many words, I'm glad I'm a country boy and married a farmers daughter.
Wish the best for ya Joe....be vigilant...-6

My wife was borne here, and between the leftist mayor and city council passing all sorts of pork, while at the same time destroying hundreds of fixable houses in the residential areas, she's said this place has really gone down the toilet since she was a kid.
She left after the blizzard of 79 and didn't return till 2015. She didn't recognize the place.

Re: This woke us up this morning ...
I left the city back in 2006, when I retired.
I was in central ohio and the cartel and other gangs were taking over.
Was born and raised in southern WV but settled in south east KY on a 70 acre farm with cabin, one acre pond and 60 plus acres of timber.
Best decision I ever made.
Their is crime everywhere, but down here it is the occasional meth head or pot grower, thats about it.
Just have to pay attention while out on the property, stay armed all the time, keep your valuables locked up.
moved far enough out and bought just enough land so no one can move close enough to bother me.
Lexington is about 1 1/2 to 2 hrs away, closest walmart is about 25 minutes away.
last few years the Amish have been flocking to southeast KY, opening stores, sawmills, etc.
I asked one of the Amish women at the store one day why they were moving down here.
She said they did a country wide study for the best, economical place to live in the U.S. and this was the area.
Have to lean toward being self sufficient, electric and water are not very dependable when you live way out.
I have a 3 ton electric heat pump, but I also have a box wood stove for heating and cooking if need be.
I keep a few cords of wood put back, but got enough timber to last a few generations.
Wife had me build a wood burning bread oven outside, sort of an adobe type oven, big enough to bake anything actually.
Last year I installed a hand well pump on top of the deep well cap, so we can pump water by hand in an emergency.
We got chickens a few years back, had to build a strong coop to keep the predators out.
We have the occasional bear, mountain lion, bobcats, coyotes, etc.
But I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

Joe,
You don't need to go far. Northeast towards Rt. 6 and the OH border there is nothing but wide open spaces and rural areas for miles and miles to the North and East.

Both LaPorte and Michigan City are much better (for the area). Plus LaPorte has a really nice public shooting range.
