So what is the reason not to shoot an animal that is destroying your property and potentially attacking folks?

Don't tell me Minnesota is as bad as here. You shoot one trying to eat you and you better have serious bite and claw marks.

Yea, we can't shoot protesters here either. Too darned many, we'd end up reducing the states population by about 40%.

Had one of those suction cup bird feeders that ya put on the window, darned bear couldn't reach it and started chewing the siding. I called fish & game. They told me that I was baiting bears by feeding the birds...
I asked the warden if I could shoot the bear if it broke the window and came in the house. His reply was 'call the police'. I said I surly would AFTER the bear was dead.
Now I have my feeders up about 8' or better.
When I do see a bear in the yard I sneak the upstairs bathroom window open and fling out a pack of fire crackers, usually start going off about head level- ol ba'r don't know if it should krap or go blind! Then I chase em off with bottle rockets!

Course you'd need a big shovel
When I lived in Maine we had beaver dam flooding our pasture, called the game commision and was told cant do anything about it just have to let them flood your pasture. Really? I was contemplating my options when nature took over...six or seven of them died mysteriously of some type of sudden onset disease...I BELIEVE it was called Hornet poisoning.

Pitchy Can they live trap him, and relocate the bird seed poacher? They can't resist donuts but it will need to be a mighty strong convert trap to hold that big one.
They do taste good if there is a fall season by the way and bird seed fattened too!

They do relocate them if they cause enough trouble and some have been shot when they get to bold in the big city.We have a bear season but I don`t partake. :)

Get yourself a container of ground cayenne pepper, mix it into the bird seed. Birds dont taste it but bears and tree rats dont like it!
Also if the bears start getting into your garbage can put a cap full of pinesol in each bag of garbage. Bears dont like the smell. Trust me it works!!

Too bad that you can't get syrup of ipecac anymore. That made you throw up until you were sick. Mixing it with something a bear would eat might cause some fun.

He came back last night, tore the screen off the porch and lifted a plastic trash can full of corn out and dragged it down in the woods.
Deer are down there having a feast this morn.

Trash can was sitting beside that other one, he never even came in just lifted it out.

Dang Lenn, that looks like a pretty big bear. You both need to be real careful. Err on the side of caution and load 'em heavy. You could alternate 00 and slugs in your pump gun. Ought to make good bear medicine if he comes inside.

Now all you can do is remove all the food.
Time to get some plywood and 5 lbs of roof nails and make bear boards!
Or get eletric fence hooked up to the 220!!!
I had same thing happen, ol b'ar just pushed screen in and took garbage can of sunflower seed right out. Now I keep my bird seed inside the house in the warm months.
