As Gunny said, that looks medieval, should be pretty final to any critter unlucky enough to encounter it.... :D

Sorry I don`t and there don`t seem to be any mice around to catch, maybe the three fox that live under the barn have something to do with it.

Not quite up to Pitchy design standards but it works!

I had to resort to this, the hav-a-heart trap didn't hold the munks when Win would grad the trap and toss it around! My shop walls seem to crawl in the winter months. Trapped well over 2 dozen mice over the winter and at least 20 munks last fall in the hav-a-heart, Win probably released half on them!

This afternoon I noticed my munk trap was knocked over. I figured that a tree rat shoved a paw in and set off the trap. So I go out to reset it, open the lid and there sits a young chipmunk on the trap but nowhere near the pan!
I looked at it, it at me both of us slightly confused. It takes off tries to go up a tree then my leg then back into the trap then out again before finally running off. There I stood wishin for my 44 special with shot shells!

Pitch, do you think gravity alone will give that iron maiden thing enough momentum to skewer Señor Mouse, or would a spring assist add to the lethality? Come to think you could probably use it to crack walnuts in the off season.

Wow that's pretty neat, Lenn.
For such an old design, it seems more complicated than more modern ones.
Of course, I'm sure metal was tough to come by back then.

All this talk of fancy mouse traps, and all the hard work that goes into making them. I have the ultimate mouse trap. It not only kills the mouse/rat/squirrel, but it disposes of the remains, as well.
Image
As you cans see it is ever vigilant.
The only maintenance required is an occasional rubbing of the tummy or scratching of the ears.

WOW, GREAT mouse trap design Pitchy, You should call it "The Mouse Tenderizer". I subscribe to Shawn Woods "Mouse Trap Mondays" and especially like his homemade copies of mouse traps of old. I especially like his Guillotine Mouse Trap: https://youtu.be/hsdeG6JKXBk
My living mousetraps my two cats are great. My older gal cat that we found newborn and abandoned in a field next to my property when I lived on Maui. She is mainly a indoor cat but any mouse or rat that was foolish enough to get into the house stood no chance. She is small in frame but fierce for her size. She once caught and killed a HUGE rat that looked a quarter her size. Sad to see her getting old and arthritic and past her prime at 13 years. A friend of my son gave us a feral male kitten which was wandering the parking structure of his condo in Honolulu. This scrawny little guy at 6 months is now double the size of my old female and still growing so he will be huge when full grown. I don't like litter boxes in the house so at both my old home as well as my new home I constructed an outdoor "catio" (cat=patio) with a pet door to keep the litter box in. The tight weave lattice panels I used as exterior barrier allows B-52 roaches as well as mice and lizards to get into the "catio", and my new young male cat loves to catch these critters to catch and bring into the house as gifts to us. Fortunately all the critter gifts have been dead except for one large anole lizard, the drawback of having living mouse traps.

Sneaky Squeaky my new male "mouse trap"
