Yet another trap I seen on mouse trap Monday, its a quick set made in 1938 or about.
It was called the last word trap.
Took a lot of bending and tinkering to get it right.

I'm on the fence, should I stick with 2 traps or make a couple more...
Well I have 12 crystal radios we made, several tube radios and half dozen mouse traps, I can go on and on.

Thank you Lenn for your generous offer! However I think I'll keep using my 2 new traps and my live trap, Winnie.
Yes that is a chipmunk tail sticking out of her mouth and it was alive! As long as the monk doesn't bite or scratch her mouth she doesn't hurt them. Every once in a while though she has to crunch down! I have removed many drool soaked chipmunks from her gaping maw!
I misunderstood I didn`t realize your live trapping
We don`t trap chippys either have a couple that are pets, heck can`t set any of my traps outside in fear of getting a chip.
Cool picture.

Well Win live traps, I'm not. They have been on a population boom here past couple years. All winter long the walls of my shop are crawling. The shop 'attic' of loaded with nuts and nesting material. They are stealing my insulation. I decided it was time to thin them out a might. Hate to do it...

We have a bloom in chipmunk numbers this year. time to set the rat traps at the corners of the buildings. they get used to them and run over them all the time. then bam.....my record year was 30 in one month.

My mom's dad was a justice of the peace for Alpine County CA, he died a long time ago. As a kid I would always rummage around in the wood shed attic. I remember a bear trap being up in the rafters. Try as I might I couldn't get my folks to let me have it / send it home. It ofcourse mysteriously disappeared when my grandmother passed, as did a bunch of desirable historical stuff...
Today we made a choker style trap, the bait goes in the back and the mouse chews through the string to get to it and sets it off.

Thats friggen genius! What a great idea. We always used the water bucket with a beer can on a wire to catch multiple mice.
I wonder if you could mix up some antifreeze to use it in the winter?
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
Thanks Jay, yep that would work my problem is there aren't any mice around

Mice can be somewhat adorable, yet it's not all that sweet when you see one hastening through your home. More awful is discovering hints of a mouse in your cupboards or storage rooms — obvious droppings or even a home. On the off chance that you have a mouse in your home, you have a few options available to you. You can set another conscious snare and discharge it outside, utilize a standard snap trap, or even get a feline to carry out the activity. Utilize mouse anti-agents and seal your home to keep mice out later on.
Needs more weight on the hammer.
Cool idea, though - I'll take a coupla dozen, please!
(That said, I'm all for ANYTHING that kills mice!)
I've got an infestation of the little beasts on my property this year.
I've killed hundreds in the wood piles and in the shed since March.
That's not an exaggeration. Some of my snap traps have a score
or more of kills to their credit. I even shot one with a Ruger Mk II!

Welcome to the board, i`ll kill every mouse i see what good is it to turn them loose so they can chit and pee in everything they crawl into.
California is learning the hard way that not being able to cut a tree or pick up dead underbrush because ya might disturb some wildlife.
It`s a shame so many have died because of tree huggers and they`er regulations.

Exactly! Remove the fuel and NO FIRES! And I'd like to add WHO CARES if the 'celebrities' have lost their homes!! Let them pay outta pocket to rebuild so those that have nothing can get full benefit from the insurance companies. Each time CA has a wildfire and homes are destroyed they just DONT learn. Cut fire breaks, remove fuel, keep areas around the house free of combustables... common sense- oh that right they have none.
Thanks Bill, i have something eluding my traps, i caught the chippy with the Tombstone trap but reset it just in case and it has been snapped twice with nothing in it and bait gone.
Figure it must be a mouse so set a regular victor trap now, we`ll see.

This one isn't as elegant -- or as devious! -- as Pitchy's designs are...
But I plan to build several of these and fill the buckets with water & anti-freeze (non-toxic, even though our Lab is gone...) for my shed and for the boat while it's stored under wraps this fall & winter.
The one on the boat may continue to be used all spring & summer if we have the same mouse invasion as we had this year...

I was going to build one but they`er pretty cheap on ebay so bought one, it uses a magnet to hold it up and a bolt so ya can adjust the gap between the magnet and the metal piece for sensitivity.
The old pop can on a wire works pretty good too.

How did I miss this thread? Mom and me just spent the last hour going through it....my vote for the second best is the guillotine with number one going to the last one that resets itself. She says, "that's so cruel". Ha! Coming from a family where her dad was a farmer with a custom butchering business.
The one that drops a dead weight is the one I'm gonna build except it's going to have a weight that's 5,000 pounds and big enough for a BIG varmint to walk through.
The bear trap..still work? I know of a way where you can receive cash and prizes sent directly to your door for that bear trap.
Thanks Six glad ya liked them, the bear trap is modern not a antique.

Pitchy...that trap looks old...you "antiqued" it real nice. I've always wanted an old original one. I used to see them back in the seventies but in those days, I not have two pennies to rub together. Modern ones have real weak spring pressure...a little kid can set em. Does your have the strong spring?
I have a modern one, #6, the biggest, made in the eighties in North Dakota that has real springs...never have been able to set it...410 pounds to set each side.---6
Mine`s real, there`s a company that sells them i think i paid 175 for mine quite a while ago.
Mine has teeth which are illegal to use here how about yours.
I made a setter for mine that makes it easy to set, used to have a vid but its lost on PB if i get a chance tomorrow i`ll dig it out and snap a picture.

Mines got teeth also. I can set it but I don't care to....with big c clamps. Was told it will snap a 2x4 in half. I paid $350.
Many years ago .....seventies.......I was at a gun auction where a new in the box, yes NIB Newhouse bear trap....smaller one than mine .........went for $200 and l bid $190....that was all I had on me. .......but then again, in those days $300 would buy a nice 1886. ----6
Ahhh, maybe it was better that I did not get it....if I came home after spending nearly two weeks pay on a trap, I would not have had much peace in the house.....that reminds me of the time I took my new 1976 full equipped Ford pick up 4x4 to the bank to see what they would give me on the title as I wanted a buddies very nice all original 1962 Corvette that he wanted $4500 for and the bank said $4000 ....on a truck I paid 7 for. Could not tell the wife about needing 500 more....long story----6

That would take care of your dog and any other animals that drank from the bucket.
I think most people here are smart enough not to do that or to make sure its not where other animals can get to it.

Yup. That is one thing I am very careful about. I'm always working on one vehicle or another in the garage. I hate messing with cooling systems just cause of loose antifreeze.
I'd feel terrible if the dog or cat got in it.
"Oh bother", said Pooh, as he chambered another round.
Six here`s the trap setter i made, it hinges by placing the trap in the hooked end then pressing down on the other end with your knee.

Some people should have been mechanical engineers but like me also, who was told to go to college and continue with my blueprinting decided to take a path where I was happy, and not wearing a shirt and tie which I was told to do when reporting to my apprenticeship at Sun Shipbuilding. I told the interviewer not to expect me. It's flannel shirts, jeans, and Redwing boots for me!
I DID IT MMMMMMMMMMYYYYYYYYYYYY WAY!!!!! (Good 'ole Frank, another of my heroes.)
Yes, Pitchy, you used leverage, a lot simpler that fooling with clumsy ...and unpredictable C-Clamps on curved/angled surfaces. I still say your a mechanical engineer consummate. ----6

I got up last night to 'water the daisy's ' and I heard something strange in the bathroom, sure enough a mouse was in the bathroom trap , caught around the middle, it dragged the trap backwards under the heat register wedging itself. I got it out and dispatched it then gave it a burial at sea !
Had a mouse in the walk the plank trap this morning.

When I was in Colorado I was renting a house that was Adobe construction. Every winter the walls would crawl with mice. My roommate and I each ran a trapline. No idea how many mice we got. One night I'm laying in bed and BOOM! Seems he was laying in bed with his single six stoked with shot loads and a mouse was chewing on his boot when he shot it.
