Get a Grip!

Post by Griff »

I won this pistol several years ago, and have made a few alterations... new, taller sights, ramped and polished internals... smooth as butter now, and reliable to a fault! I've shot several Wild Bunch matches with it, and nary a bobble! A couple of years ago I bought a set of faux ivory grips and tried to checker them myself... FAIL!

So, a ffew days ago I was looking for some ivory grips for another pistol, (1836 Paterson), and ran across these double diamond style from Ajax:

I think a little classier than the wood scales as on this pistol's twin.

(Edited to show new pics that better show the checkering).

Griff,
Nice 1911......as far as I'm concerned, all other semi auto's need not be mentioned.

Yea, one time I tried to recut checkering with the proper tool and screwed up a set of pre war n frame Smith stocks.---6

Never tried my hand at checkering, but I can imagine it takes some skill. That is probably the reason for laser cut and pressed checkering being more common today. If you want it done badly for the before picture, I could probably help out.

"Almost" a pimp gun... pearl grips and chrome, nickel or polished stainless is necessary to qualify as a "pimp" gun! :P :D

Thanks. Made me feel much better.
BTW, this .380 Auto pistol had a growing list of minor problems, so recently I had a pistol smith look it over and he fixed them all and now it is once again fun (and reliable) to shoot. It can now be carried cocked and locked safely.

Maybe I should have it chrome plated?

Kind of like these, but they really aren't conducive to long shooting periods. But, in honor of the Marine I inherited it from I find myself carrying it quite often.

And, while I have a number of other semi autos, if I had only 1911's it would be enough for all things for which you need a handgun.

Have a pair of fake ivories for this Combat Gov. Model but it wears these grips that a friend they called little Davy from Fort Worth that put these together for me.
If anyone knows him let me know as I haven`t been able to get hold of him for years, he used to hang out on the Muzzle loader boards.

Nice grips everybody.
The 1911 is about the only auto with the class and panache to blend well with a nice set of grips.
