DISNEYLAND HARRASSMENT

Post by jeepnik »

Went to Disneyland last Saturday. Their "trained" dog alerted on me. Now, I had nothing on me that should cause the "trained" dog to single me out. They did everything short of a strip search. I made it very clear that they needed to have better trained animals. They threatened to call the two police officers (they are always a couple at the screening area) over. I ask them to do so, they suddenly didn't think that was such a good idea.

Now mine you, I have an annual pass and go every other weekend. I strongly suspect I was singled out not because of the dog, but the NRA shirt I was wearing.

Sad that a place started by a man who had volunteered during WWI would harass veterans (oh yea, I had my Viet Nam veterans hat on as well).

What's even funnier is that I, the white senior citizens was stopped by the 20 something fellow with a middle eastern accent. Now seriously, there is something just not right about this picture.

I'm going again in a couple of weeks. If I get singled out again, I'm going to run it right up their chain of command and be quite vocal about it.

Is it true or another old wive's tale that sprinkling chili powder (Jalipeno, etc.) will confuse the sniffer?

Folks try all kinds of things to mess up the abilities of dogs to find "x". Here where the exports of "white coffee" are all too common, pepper, coffee and other aromatic substances are used to mask the odor - usually with little success.

Although I only live 15 miles from New Jersey, I have not been there since 1984, due to their politics and policy of "can find anything wrong with out of state drivers so we can fine them to support our policy of giving to "people" who always have their hands out." There might be a possibility I might have to purchase gas or at the least, pay a bridge toll.

Sixgun, there are two shorter and quicker ways to take when I go back home but both involve New Jersey so I go by the same old route I've been taking for 44 years.

Hey Six not sure if you have noticed or not but they even CHARGE us to leave the state!
As I say, NJ is a good place to be FROM!
If not for my elderly mother I'd be outta here so fast my skivvies would hit the ground!

Oh and as for Disney, I wouldn't step foot on their properties if I was paid too. Over priced, over crowded and nothing that has any interest for me.

When I dispatched for Mayflower Moving many years ago, drivers would turn down a full load from Oregon (I dispatched the northwest states) to New Jersey and take a partial load to the middle of nowhere in Nevada instead, due to the GUN LAWS in New Jersey. Same for New York, and Illinois.

On the New Jersey thingy.....I loaded tractor-trailers for 44 years and while doing paperwork, every driver told me they dreaded to make a delivery in NJ. They tell me they have a cop sitting on the end of every "20 ton" listed bridge. The bridge is strong enough to carry anything and the signs are little. :D among other things they do there.

The state itself is nice, being very open in the southern half...IIRC....it's just the politics and the way they make criminals out of law abiding people.

Ah... Disneyland... the true Land of Enchantment... you New Mexico residents need not apply! I worked there for several months after I got out of horse-shoeing school... apprenticed to their Farrier for a month, then took over when he moved to FL... got fired for raising my prices... The back end of the park is SO much MORE fun than the front where the "commoners" are welcome...:P  The stories those coach and wagon drivers would tell! I used to openly drive in with my .30-30 in the "heavy-duty, ever-ready, handi-dandi" rifle rack in the back window of my ½-t Chevy 4x4 p/u with the bed full of horse shoes, anvil, hammers, tongs, my coal forge and other paraphernalia of the trade... Had a new guard one Saturday... I still swear my foot slipped off the clutch when I jumped ahead... and drove on in... I had the parking sticker anyway...

I avoid places that have to search me like that. Not that there's
anything at Disney I want to see anyway. Same with the TSA.
I've flown ONCE since 9/11. No, thanks.

My Mom is from NJ. I try to avoid the State. I drove through it one
time with a brick of 550 22 hollowpoints. The fine in NJ is $1,000
for the possession of each HP bullet. I did it on principle, but I'd have
been ruined had my vehicle been searched. That kind of nonsense is
ridiculous.

I hear some of the Ramapos are nice, as are the Pine Barrens in
Southern New Jersey. They can pretty much keep the rest.

We live about an hour from the front gate at Disney World here in Fla. The last time I was there was about 25 years ago. My son would have been 5 at the time. After a day of doing all the Disney things in the park we were waiting for the afternoon parade to start and he looked up at me and said, you know dad, this place is OK but I'd rather spend time in the woods. We haven't been back since.

Yep. When working nights as a fill-in pharmacist many years ago I carried a Para Ordnance P-14 and had my commute accidentally taken me into New Jersey due to a highway closure like that one gal, the gun would have gotten me a year in jail, and since I carried two extra magazines on the other side of the shoulder rig, just to balance the weight (didn't need the extra ammo really), I had 43 rounds of Speer 'flying ashtray' JHP's on me - so would have had to pay a fine of $43,000 just for the ammo....

Thankfully it is unlikely a highway closure will divert you to New Jersey if you live in Indiana.... :D

I don't like crowds or lines, so Disney was never my thing. Made the obligatory two trips, one each when the kids were at that age. Fortunately, they were never interested in going back either!

Haven't been to Disneyland or Disney World for over a year but been to both more than a few times in the last 5 years (twice escorting wy wife's school kids). Never, when not wearing a gun and have not had a problem.

Went again yesterday. No dogs in evidence, anywhere. Got to wonder why. Perhaps their extremely well trained pups bit someone they just didn't like the smell of. Or it stuck it's nose up some females backside (more likely) and the fight was on.

And when I say no dogs, I mean none. Usually in addition to to the entrance security checks you find them roaming the parks.

I could have qualified for a position for one of their street bands, but their rules of conduct and appearance  were more strict than the Military. Still, it might have been fun for a couple years.

I actually worked for Disney once, as an assistant animator. I remember there was lots in the contract about conduct outside of the workplace, you couldn't embarrass the company etc. I used to forget to draw Goofy's ears. That caused a lot of drawing. Now its all computerised. But I can say I dipped my toe into the grand old tradition of film animating, right at the end of it, with a pencil.
I actually got out as quick as I could. I found them an unfriendly company to work for, and paid very little. Basically the animation business was run on slave labour and Disney was no different, despite their reputation.
