HPRR Rendezvous
The high plains regional rendezvous is in Kansas this year and I know there are a couple smokepole shooters here. HPRR.org should get you info if interested in going to the week long event. June 17-23

Re: HPRR Rendezvous
I have been " believe it or not " to a rendezvous over here, the period dress left a little to be desired but it was good fun.…..
I have also been to a Viking Battle reenactment, seeing Vikings smoking cigarettes and drinking beer from cans looked odd but that was a few years ago, hopefully they now have drinking horns and have stopped smoking.…..

Ray, when the enthusiasts put in so much effort in their dress and outfits to recreate at least a vague sense of the period, they deserve some time protected from folks in Hawaiian shirts and flip-flops.
Gamekeeper, the biggest spell-breaker I can think of is the guy dressed period to the nines, but he won't take off his eyeglasses with the light darkening lenses. Ruins it every time. Some folks are clueless. The local paper ran a photo of an Easter re-enactment and the guy playing the role of Jesus had those same glasses on. I could not believe it. He looked like Kojak but with hair.

Bill, I couldn't agree more, I'm amazed at the detail some reenactors go to for a realistic period look, whilst others don't take off their wrist watch or modern glasses.Bill in Oregon wrote: ↑Wed Apr 04, 2018 8:18 am

Time ceases to exist at these events, you leave your watch behind. I haven't worn a wrist watch in 40 years because the white band round my wrist just didn't look right at these events. Most of the folks I knew that needed glasses moved to a pair of period specs when they could.
Re: HPRR Rendezvous
You could always make a glass bead wrist band to cover the white skin. Glass beads for decoration have been used since the late 1400s. Some leather for the string, some beads from Wal Mart or Hobby Lobby, a little creativity in how you want to make it, and you have something that helps you to fit in and could possibly be used as a trade item. I am sure lots of reenactors trade their items they make for things they want.

I’ll be there with all my PC (period correct) garb to include eyewear. Just meant to be a heads up, no need to get all worked up.
