5.56 ar cases

Post by rossim92 »

Hopefully in the future i can go shoot my new ar15  . I will have about 440 rds of empties if i can find them all after shooting. Is there any use in reloading for leverguns in this size shell for you guys? If not , i will just throw em away. i don't reload.

Don't throw them away. Eventually you'll either decide to start reloading, find someone who already does, or have enough to take to the scrap yard and make a buck or two from.

We can’t give away brass for 223 or 9mm. So I just sort it and bag it. Eventually you’ll find a use or home for it. Todd/3leg

Since that's so popular you can get 55 grain fmj bullets for $80/thousand which makes reloading for the thing quite cheap. And those AR's can go through a lot of ammo in a hurry so you end up buying a progressive press so you can stand to save all that money. And then you can shoot more 'cause you're saving all that money anyway. :D

At least that's how things went for me, though I already had the progressive press and just needed another shell plate.

Better save your brass.

Could not have been said better. Brass takes up little room.

I save ALL brass, even berdan primed and dented up junk. About 5 years ago when brass prices were high I took a 55 gallon plastic drum that was nearly full from 30 years of saving to the scrapyard and put $550 in my pocket. (Yea, i immediately blew it on an aftermarket bumper for the Rubicon.)

I forgot how many times I've helped out buddies with their needs, money I made here by selling and I've never had to scramble looking for brass on a newly acquired firearm.-----6

Just remembered, I have saved nearly every spent primer since the 1970's. By looking at my records I can tell within a couple of thousand how many I have....probably pushing close to a half mil....they are all copper.

It was just a few short years ago that you couldn't buy brass, bullets, powder, molds or dies, let alone ammo
I would save it & wait for the next end of the world scare to come along

Yup. Don't throw brass.

Hey Six,
I thought I was the only one who saved berdan primed brass. :D

I do reload, but not for certain calibers. .223/5.56 is one of those I wont waste my time reloading for. If I had a bolt action or single shot in this caliber I'd likely reload for it. But for my AR15 I don't bother. I do keep my brass and sell it at my local gun show. Not worth much, but I can usually sell it for around 3 cents a piece.

While I can reload 5.55, i dont bother either. But, I keep all my brass haha. I can make 300BO out of it, and I do load those.

Them .556 cases ought to be easy to find, what with being big enough for a bullet over half-an-inch in diameter. What I want to know is -- where the heck do you find an AR chambered in that caliber???
