Wonder how this compares to a 50 Beowulf...

Post by AJMD429 »

I'd think it is just heavier (the gun) but not all that much better ballistically. Have to think on this one. For now, I'm keeping the Beowulf (besides, the ballistics of it and my 500 S&W levergun are identical, which makes things easy).

Considering its based on the AR10 platform, i dont see it catching on. There is already the 45 Raptor. Now in the AR15 you have 458 soc9m. 50 beowulf, 358 yeti....etc...etc.

I had a 50B for a while but just didnt see the draw. Sold it and bought another 45-70

I could see a small following for it. How come no one has taken an AR10 and shortened the action for the 22, 6mm and 7 mm Benchrest length family of cartridges? Todd/3leg

Yes...even the author says it's not for everyone. I consider the AR rifle a "working gun", used to dispense lots of rounds quickly, ....if needbe,....accurately, and modest in price.....The .223, loaded properly will settle lots of arguments. All of mine come in the 223 variety.

On the other hand I see a real need for an 1894 in all calibers. :D ---6

I had a Beowulf , 450 BM and the 458 Suc Com all at my disposal at the same time .

For me needs I didn't see an ounce difference between the three with handloads or factory stuff . I also do not believe them to be what the manufacturers say they are . This new thing IMHO is worse yet since it's on the heavier AR-10 platform .

Never owned an AR upper in 223 or 5.56 just never cared for the round . To be 100% honest the only ones that truly intrest me any longer are the Grendel on the 15 and the 260 on the 10 . And while I truly like the 260 my God that things heavy .

I suspect in the not overly distant future my 450 BM , 22 Nosler , 6.8 SPC and 308 upper may all hit the open Gunbroker market .

I was wondering the other day how the .50 S&W and the other big bore stuff compares with the old Sharps big fifty?

Those 2 are like .38 S&W compared to .38 Special and your .500 is a .38 +p compared to the 50 Alaskan and modern 50-110 which is a .357 mag.

I'm curious about the 375 socom and 375 Raptor.
A little reading on these so far is putting each and every flavor of 375 bullets about 2,400 fps and good energy out to 300.
The socom can be made by resizing 458 cases. Didn't see the parent case for the raptor.
