Venison, or worm meat?
I found perhaps 15 pounds of venison roasts and steaks in a far corner of my big freezer. The freezer is never "off" and always set for long storage. The venison is dated 2013. It was frozen fresh after cleaning and trimming. It has not been "aged." Visually and by opening one of the sealed containers to smell, I detect nothing unusual - that is, these packages appear to contain fresh meat in every respect.
Assuming the meat's taste is not unpalatable, is it safe to eat?

Thaw out some and fry up a piece, if it's bad it will probably smell bad while it is cooking. Eat a small piece and see how you feel, if it's not good your wife can let us know.

If it tastes good it is good. At least that's my philosophy -- the wife would disagree with me I'm sure; she believes she has saved me from food poisoning many times over the years. So I vote with JerryB.

Always frozen? It's ok. Perhaps after thawed it's a candidate for making some bulk sausage.

My inlaws are in the meat business.......as long as the meat has been kept frozen, it's good to go. Sometimes the outer edges will get "freezer burnt" which is a drying out of the meat and is easily seen. It won't hurt you but it very yukky.....if that's a word....Cut that away (if you have any) and your good to go. The longer it has been in storage, the more likely it is freezer burnt. It's another reason my inlaws double wrap the deer meat.----6

Safe? Sure, but the flavor may be a bit off after such an extended time. Then again, if it was really sealed up well...

I’ve always eaten the venison from any Sika deer I’ve killed slowly . Because for one reason I don’t get them that often . Anyway I’ve eaten that when it was about five years old no problem .

If it was processed properly it wouldn't have bacteria growing before freezing that would leave toxins (which would still be present despite freezing, and which are not necessarily eliminated by cooking).
If it stayed frozen there would be no way for bacteria to grow in it even if some were present initially.
So it should be safe, and I agree with the others who say cook it well and try some. The reason not to eat a whole bunch at once would be if there were some bacterial growth you might get sick a little bit with a little toxin but a lot with a lot of toxin.
As for taste......that is a whole different topic, and I would not be at all surprised if there is some freezer burn, no matter how carefully it was wrapped. I still can't figure out why "freezer paper" seems to confer an advantage over Ziploc bags, because freezer paper surely has to let in more air and allow more moisture exchange than a Ziplock bag does, but for some reason freezer paper seems to work better. If it has freezer burn, what we do at our house is use that meat to make a strongly flavored chili or something like that, so we don't mind up wasting the meat.

As others have said, no problem with safety if it has been continually frozen. I have eaten venison that was much older. Unwrap the meat and you can easily see the freezer burned part which will be discolored to a brown shade. Trim that away until you are down to fresh looking stuff. It will be delicious. The discolored part will taste awful so trim it off and throw it away.

If all else fails cut it in chunks like stew meat and make chili with it. I like "jailhouse" chili made with chunk meat better than the stuff made with ground meat.

Texture or flavor may suffer a wee bit, but if you
use it in chili you'll never notice that.
Me? I'd eat it as long as it doesn't smell strange when thawed........
