Did my part to P.O. a liberal today,,

Post by 2ndovc »

I actually ordered this a couple of weeks ago and it finally came in today. This replaces a Sporter Lightweight I'd had since 1992.

Anyway, this was the closest new Colt they had to the old Sporter Lwt.

Good job young man! (Don't forget to stock up on 30 rd. P-mags)------6

STRENGTH comes in numbers...GOD BLESS George W. Bush for sanitizing those sand animals because without that, there would be very little to encourage the young people to buy AR's. Before the sand war, we old heads worried about the state of our rights, seldom seeing young people in gun shops.....but good ole G.W. changed that.

On another note, my two granddaughters who live in Colorado, one a senior and the other a freshman did NOT walk out today with the rest of the weak minded ones. I am SO proud of them.---6

2ndovc -- very NICE AR-15, can't go wrong with a COLT. As for me, I'm "old school", many LEO's within the LE Agency I serve have an AR-15 Patrol Rifle in their Patrol vehicles (mostly Colt, S&W, and Daniel Defense).

I still like the old "boomstick", a Remington 870 Police Magnum. I bought a standard model in 2004 with the wood furniture, no extended mag tube, just 4 +1 (the following pics only show the type and style I own, not my actual 870P). Mine is undergoing a facelift, took it completely apart for its yearly deep cleaning and parts check. And I just put a Magpul stock and a Remington synthetic forearm on it tonight--I'll post pictures later.

The AR-15 platform is a great weapon system, but so is the 870P... :)

I have an 870 that's nearly identical to that one. It's a former Delaware State Police issue and sits between my bed and night stand for the things that go bump in the night. :D

Thanks guys!

I sure like the scope ya have on it, I take it you don`t see the front sight ?
I have a red dot on mine now but I don`t like having to turn it on or off and having batteries.
I have a 4x scope that mounts on top of the carry handle but that sits so high I don`t like that either.
The rifle is a Bushmaster with removable carry handle and I have a couple of those removable rear sights maybe I`ll mount that scope to the rail again and see if that works. :)

Hope ya don`t mind me asking a few questions, this is what I have now.
I see my rear sights are going to be too high to work also, where`s a good place to buy a scope mount and lower rear sight like you have?
Thanks.

Hey Pitchy,

There's the specs on the scope. https://www.leupold.com/scopes/compact- ... -25-4x20mm.
I got it and the mount from Natchez Shooter's Supply. Caught it on sale w/ free shipping. I like it so much I'm going to order another set. I just can't warm up to the holographic sights. I have an EoTech that works well, I have it on a Ruger 556 but I really like this new Leupold. The glass is amazingly clear and bright. It has a little red dot that can be turned on/off-up/down, if desired. I can see the front sight but it doesn't bother me, hard to explain but just doesn't seem to be in the way.

The rear sight is a Magpul MBUS that came with the rifle. Seems pretty rugged, first one of theirs I've had.

Thanks, I want to use the scope I have all I need is a low profile rear sight that will work with the factory front sight and a scope mount like yours so the scope clears the rear sight.
I`m cheap so don`t want to spend much. :)

Gotcha,

I have a set of folding sites on my Windham that I picked up cheap somewhere. I think I paid $35 for the pair but can't remember the brand. I'll take a look when I get home this afternoon and shoot you the info. :D

Thanks, I see the Magpul rear sight on ebay for 38.00 so with that and a higher scope mount like yours I should be in business.

Good stuff, Jack!

The new Colt puts me back up to five AR's. Two Colt's, A Windham VEX, Ruger 556 and a Stoner 7.62x39 that I put together on a Stag lower. I have three more lowers sitting in the closet waiting for me to decide what to do with them. :D

First I want to thank JP for posting this thread which got me off my lazy butt and upgrading my AR scope setup.
I`ve been wanting to put a better scope on this rifle for years well this is what I came up with, the little 4x scope wouldn`t work it was to short for the mount so I took the scope off my Bone Collector air rifle that I bought to handle the recoil of a air rifle.
It`s a Hammers brand 3x9 which is supposed to be a fairly good scope, comments welcome on that.
The flip up rear sight isn`t here yet so couldn`t put it on but it`s the same one JP has on his rifle.

Comments welcome and hope ya don`t mind me adding my rifle here.

Looks good buddy! Too bad the little 4x didn't fit, but that looks good. Now you can stretch it out.

I have been happy with this Weaver 4-16x, and got around the 'backup irons' issue with 45° offset sights; they are that and ready with nothing to flip or remove, and work fine. No more obtrusuve up front than any other sight, and the rear one is in a place that doesn't interfere with anything. The gun is accurate with a 18" heavy tapered barrel, upgraded trigger, and easy to carry with the MagPul single-point sling attached under the scope.

I never really use the adjustable stocks other than fully extended so I keep the adjustable stock on my Shorty 'cuz it looks scary and makes Snowflakes who survive seeing this rifle get all sweaty and shake when they see my other AR... :o

Good stuff!

Picked up a Retro style short barreled upper today at a show in Toledo. I ordered a fixed A2 style stock and a couple other things for it when I got home.
I'll post a photo when I get it all together.

Show was kinda quiet, by the way. I expected a bigger, more frenzied crowd.
Couldn't find anything good so I grabbed some AR stuff and headed home.
