John Kort aka W30wcf

Post by Alfaromeos164 »

With regrets I am here to let you members know that John “Jack” Kort passed away last night in his sleep peacefully. I am Jack’s son-in-law and on behalf of the entire family, we would like to thank each of you for your prayers, support, and for being a friend of his.

You all know the knowledge, experience and love Jack had for the shooting sport and I hope the next guys up carry on in his tradition. As an avid Marlin fan and hunter, I was amazed at what Jack knew and what he did with his knowledge. I also had the honor of cleaning out his room where he made bullets and I can say I have never seen so much stuff!

Jack loved life and his savior Jesus Christ and now he is at rest with him. We all shoot and some make bullets but for me there will never be another Jack. An honestly good man with love for everyone.

Thanks again and keep the traditions going!

So very sad to hear this. I met Jack a few years ago at a match in PA, a super guy with amazing amount of knowledge. He helped me out several times over the years with casting and BP cartridge questions.

This is very saddening. I am very sorry for your loss as a family.

John, i believe has touched many lives and will continue to - through his knowledge that he freely shared with all of us, his attitude and vision.

I have for years run into John's writings, and always felt excited and comforted when I saw he had something to say about a matter.

Rest in peace good sir.

John’s knowledge of the 44WCF was second to none, no matter where you go on the internet searching for info on this cartridge, you find him and evidence of his research.
He is now in a place without suffering and frailty, where his faith has paid dividends!

Thank you guys, I’m glad to see Jack’s knowledge was shared and appreciated. As a gun guy myself, I enjoyed Jack’s advise and help. I was completely awed by the amount of ammo, powder, molds, etc this man worked with. His basement was an Arsenal. I wish I took this stuff up with him years ago, I just had a young family and we lived a couple hours away. None the less, it will all come back full circle because if I ever have a question, I can search this forum.

I’m glad he was associated with all of you good people. Carry on the tradition. I know that his grandchildren have all been shooting with him or I and will continue.

Without a doubt, If human kind was modeled after Jack, there would never be a war or hate of any kind. He was a lover of our Lord and the best human being I have ever known......better than ANY human to have crossed my path in 63 years.

It took me quite some time to respond to this post. Jack has been on my mind a lot in the last couple of weeks and I hate myself for not connecting with him. Rest well my friend.--Jack Jr.

Good-bye and Godspeed, my special long-distance friend. I’ll miss our discussions of the Winchester Model 1873, and the .44WCF and other black powder cartridges, though your superb historical and technical research will remain to benefit all of us. Most of all, I will forever treasure the extraordinary privilege of communing with such a rare and beautiful spirit.

I hated to open this thread, fearing this news. I am on a number of forums, some of them huge, and can honestly say I have never encountered a nicer, more informative guy than John, who brought so much to this place in particular. I believe he got a "well done" and a bear hug when he crossed over to the presence of his Lord.

He was very helpful to me when I first started reloading 44-40 many years ago and gave me some useful advice. I'm sure he's done the same for many, many others over the years.

Read of John's passing on a couple other forums over the weekend. Although I knew it might be coming, the realization that it came to pass wasn't easy for me to accept. John was always the gentleman, and always extremely knowledgeable on old cartridges and loadings. I looked forward to every post he ever made, as I always learned from him. I'm glad he isn't suffering, but I'm sure going to miss him.

I am deeply saddened by the loss of John Kort, and offer sincere condolences to his family. John was truly a giant source of very knowledgeable help and information for us old rifle cranks. I personally received a great deal of guidance from him via numerous emails while dealing with my 1873 Winchester in .44-40 caliber. He even went so far as to mail me samples of various bullets so that I could determine which bullet mold to get. Despite never having actually met him in person, I considered him my good friend.

While we will no longer have the pleasure of John's company here at the Leverguns "campfire", we are blessed that he has left so much of his knowledge in print on this forum and on several others also. His writings will continue to help and guide others for years to come.

I corresponded with John the last couple of years, and he was a man of rare knowledge. He was always to me in his emails an open and dignified man and I have missed him. I opened this thread fearing to see what I knew it might be. I had already decided that if I went back to the United States that I would make a point of visiting him, but it is not to be.

I am a friend of Jacks for years after meeting him at a match at the Bradford, PA range. John was a one-of-a-kind man and everyone felt that he was destined for greatness, which you all can plainly see he has achieved. I have been watching the internet, watching for some good news of Jack, not having much faith for a happy outcome of cancer.

John had many friends that will be saddened by this news and our prayers will be going straight to him. Rest in Peace John and condolences to his family and friends.
