That will work!
One of my great uncles was a market gunner back at the turn of the prior century, before hunters knew any better and the laws were changed, and he used a 2 or 4 ga Punt Gun on his small skiff. As kids, we were told that the recoil was enough to move the skiff backwards at every shot -- and that he always carried enough shells to "shoot" his way home if he lost an oar!
