"Lady Lex" -- USS Lexington Wreck Found

Post by Old No7 »

Searchers have found the wreck of the USS Lexington aka "Lady Lex" (click for link) that was sunk during the Battle of the Coral Sea in May 1942.

The same search crew also found the USS Indianapolis wreckage earlier.

Amazing that some of the paint is still so bright. In fact she seems in remarkably good shape for so long under water. I just hope people respect is as the burial site it is.

Glad to know that it is resting peacefully. That carrier earned a rest. I don't know of any family in the Navy during WWII, but it still brings a feeling of awe when I think about the self sacrifice shown by the men of the Lexington. Additionally, those ships were reputed to take on a personality and fighting spirit from the men aboard and the battles fought. Anyone who can look at those pictures and not feel proud of their countrymen who sailed her into battle, and proud of that majestic old ship is one who needs to be drafted to serve in the Armed Forces. The world would be a different place if not for those who fought.
