OT- time flies

Post by GunnyMack »

So I'm still on generator power. 10 gal of gas a day but the power company is/was on our street last night.
Anyhow yesterday morning I get up and microwave says its 5:15, cell phone says 4:15, what the #%^£ is going on? Did I miss the time change...NOPE!
Same thing this morning an hour fast...hmm

Am I right in my theory that generator 'cycle' is making time speed up?

Most clocks on plug in devices keep time based on the 60 cycle current. In the 60s and 70s it was understood that clocks slowed down during the day when heavier load demand caused the cycles to slow down. They caught back up overnight because the low demand allowed for the cycles to go over 60. So, yes it is probable that your generator's cyclic rate for A/C is causing the clocks to be wrong.

If the power was off, the microwave clock should have been blinking to be reset not showing a time... :? :? Same with any digital clock on house power.

I've had the generator running, microwave is one of the circuits that are hot.
Figured it would be handy to have one clock for quick reference.
Yesterday I shut down the genny so I could change the oil. Didn't bother resetting the clock!

Still many thousands of folks without power, now another Nor'easter... Not as much wind but a lot more snow. 6+ at least!
