A new challenge update on post #26

Post by iceman »

I have not commented on here lately but have been checking in everyday to see what is going on.
On Feb 13 I was told that I have cancer on my left kidney and a few small spots elsewhere. On the 28th I am having my left kidney removed (right one is in perfect condition). Once recovered I will start oral chemo. I am going into this very positive and expect to be able to carry on. It may mess up my spring trout fishing but I am planing to go hunting in the fall. I will keep you guys informed.

Iceman, hang in there. I was diagnosed with two very large malignant tumors on my left kidney (together they were bigger than the kidney!) in December of '16, had the kidney removed 1/5/17. Fortunately, no other cancer was found. The recovery was quick and uneventful, and I just got my "1-year, all-clear" report. I'll be praying for you.

Prayers up. Kidney cancer can be beat.

Guys.....get annual physicals, and the doc should check a urine sample for trace amounts of blood then.

I was hoping this post would be about a new postal levergun match..... :| .....but I guess God figured you needed us to help you instead, and so we will do our best...!!!

Be aware, as in my case there may be NO overt symptoms such as blood in the urine or pain, other than a slightly elevated creatinine level (indicating one of several possible kidney malfunctions) in an otherwise normal normal blood panel. My doctor saw that, did an ultrasound exam, and saw "something" there. Ordered a CT scan and, voila. Two big tumors.

I'll be praying for you! FWIW, I've been through the cancer and IV chemo thing twice---I won't lie, it's tough---but you have the right attitude---keep positive and look to the future (fishing/hunting, things you enjoy) and get up and find something positive every day, even if it's tough. Enjoy every moment, they are precious.

Well all is going pretty good. I have been on an oral chemo now for 2 1/2 months and was told yesterday that the tumors I have in my lungs and elsewhere have shrunk by 20%. I am back to work (only 3 days a week for now) and gaining some weight slowly. The meds don't bother me much nothing a couple Imodiums can't fix. Hopefully a couple more months and they will be gone. I feel great and blessed. Thanks to all.

Cool - when you're worn out, there are TONS of westerns to watch, hunting videos on YouTube, and gun magazines to read.

Then, when your energy gets better, you start shooting and hunting....!

Thanks everyone for the thoughts and prayers. I also quit smoking in February before my operation. It was relatively easy for me. I guess I was motivated. I was a pack and a half a day (25 cigarettes /pack in Canada) for 40+ years. No patch, only a couple packs of nicotine gum. Still get the urge for one every once in a while, but it passes quickly.

Keep on top of everything the Drs say (sometimes fer us old fellers can be a bit stubborn and not follow directions). And remember; cancer diagnosis is NOT a death sentence. BTDT, with 5 years cancer free. Praying in Oregon...
