Sighting Solution...non lever.

Post by OldWin »

I shoot with the kids quite a bit. They like to rip it up with the AK's lately, so I drug mine out too. I've always liked the AK. They shoot pretty good, but the sights don't get easier with age.
I found this mount from Attero Arms. Easy to install, no permanent modification, and it still has an iron sight. It is made for many micro dots. I chose a Trijicon RMR because it is so compact, light, and low.
Took it out and zeroed it Friday. Works slick as snot.

Yep - I switched to reflex sights many 18 years ago, when Tasco came out with the Optima 2000.

Last year, I even put one ( a $25 Weaver) on my 1914 Savage 1988H .303 (heresy, I know)

It's certainly not stylish, but as you said, it works as slick as a green snake on game.

Cool setup Pete. I have several on other firearms and like them. I am going to get a couple of the Turnbull dovetail mounts to run a Fastfire on a couple of my old Winchesters.

Once again...you get ALL of the neat stuff!! :D What the heck does it attach to.....no d & t? Is it tight on the gun?

Never owned an ak but have had several sks's...and still do. I bought this scope mount for an sks.....nothing more than replacing the rear cover and got much more worse groups with the scope as this cover rattles around. I mean like 8" groups compared to 2-3" women the open sights. Made me wonder how yours works out.

That reminds me, I must have 4-5 thousand rounds all sealed up in those sardine cans...
I ain't gettin' any younger so I might as well burn a few barrels up.----6

Reflex sights usually attach to some sort of base, that's added to the long/short gun - the bases for pistol slides are flat, many others clamp onto a Weaver-type dovetail base.

Some reflex sights have the clamp integral with their underside; others are flat to attach to any number of different bases - it all depends on the reflex sight maker.

Hey Six,
It's easy peasy. Seems to hold really well on my rifle. I bump fired a couple mags to see. :D
I'm sure if you threw the rifle off a building it would move but it seems solid as all get out on mine.

I really like the Burris Fastfire-II's I have on a couple levergun. Fast to use, and the auto-adjusting dot will go from bright enough for direct sunlight to VERY dim - enough so that they function in total darkness with just a flashlight pointed at the target. Most red dots are way too bright for low-light use, even the manually adjusting ones.

Really compact, too.

I have a FF3 that I like and have used on a lever. The above RMR on my AK has an auto adjust feature that works extremely well also.
The only thing I don't care for with the FF3 is that it doesn't use CR2032 batteries. All my other red dots do. The Burris is the "oddball"

Put the same type of sight on my Anderson AR15 last year. I like it, and having 4 different apertures, plus brightness control is a big plus for various situations.

Haha not even close, bro. I think I have 2 half 94 38-55 SRC's. One TD 92 rifle in 38wcf, one 89 Marlin 2/3 rifle in 38wcf, a 92 2/3 carbine in 38wcf and a 94 2/3 carbine in 30wcf.
Pretty sure thats it.
They did sell a lot of em up here though.

Cool beans Jay, I have a red dot on my AR at the moment and love how fast follow up shots are, that is if I don`t forget and leave it on and the battery is dead. :o

PillHer's SKS has one of those rear covers with scope mount. It is plenty snug, and with a cheap little scope on it gives better accuracy than the ammunition is capable of giving. I got some Norma brass and some .311 sized 125 grain JSP bullets and it gives almost 1 MOA accuracy using WLR primers and 31 grains of H335. That load should be close to 2400 fps and maximum pressure. I keep it reserved for hunting now. Components are not as easy and cheap as the Russian made junk, but way more accurate.

Ultimak's are some quality stuff. I have one on my M1A Scout and one for an M1 carbine.
