Why NOT Procrastinate?

Post by Griff »

Because. If you think it needs doin', do it sooner, vs. later. I finally got around to cleaning up the mess I made of my tractor alley inside the shop when I rebuilt my reloading benches. Something like 3 years ago... Anyway... kept figuring I'd rent a dumpster and get it done. Then... while my son & I were putting up new led lights in both the shop and tractor alley... he said, as I started to... "hey why don't we just load all this trash in the horse trailer and haul it to the dump?"

Great minds think alike! So that what we did, started Tuesday afternoon and finished loading it up on Wednesday morning. Wednesday afternoon we pulled the horse trailer up the garage and started to figure why NONE of the lights worked. Crawled underneath it, and started tracing wiring... 20+ years of sitting in pastures and the barnyard, mice had gotten to all the wiring. And, even the sheathed wiring from the plug was dry-rotted. long lengths of wiring that ran inside the steel frame rails were bare. So, Wednesday nite we made a list.

Thursday morning it was off the trailer supply house, 125 mile round trip. By Thursday afternoon, we made a second list of what we still needed. Set up on jack stands so we could get under it and work on the creeper, I noticed the wheels were a little woobly... hmmm... WHEN was the last time I repacked the bearings? Since I couldn't remember, figured that would be a good thing to do also. Another trip for additional supplies... and Friday afternoon, began again.

Finally got it all finished up this afternoon. New repacked wheel bearings, new wiring from the plug to all the LED lights, and ran almost so professional looking, one won't believe that it's a Texas farm trailer.

Now all I need to do, is figure out where the new license plate got put for safe keeping.

Never put off until tomorrow, what you can put off until day after tomorrow....

I have a couple or three trailers that need LED upgrades. Need to find a good supplier and get it done.

When I went out to take the shots of the lites, my son told me that now the trailer has less draw on the electrical system than my p/u. Told me I need to upgrade the lights on the p/u, as they're still the factory incandescent lites. The flatbed farm trailer is next up for a light upgrade. Necessary supplies already on hand from the two previous trips to the trailer parts supply house. Fittingly called Redneck Trailer Supplies.
