A little range time while on vacation in FL

Post by 2ndovc »

Decided to take my lovely wife to FL for my 50th birthday. Wanted it to be a memorable one and it sure worked out well. :D

I booked a swanky place on the ocean in Vero Beach, FL where my dad has a winter place. Room was about 50 yds from the ocean and the hotel was great.
Here's the sunrise from our balcony.

Heading off to dinner one night with my pretty lady.

Gun Club out near Lake Okeechobee, nice place and really well organized.
Image
I took my Stoner AR/ 7.62x39 along for something cheap to shoot.
Image
Also shot my Dad's Springfield Range Officer{s} 9mm & 45 ACP along with his
Colt Trooper.
One of the locals on the 9th green by my Dad's place.

We had a great time and really enjoyed the time with my Dad and his lady friend.
Couldn't have asked for a better vacation. :D

Hey good for you Jason!

I had ( haven't seen him in years) a buddy that is a snow bird, he spent a lot of time hitting all the FLA ranges. One of the ranges had a pond with a gator, each evening an otter would pester that gator and all the guys would sit and watch, laughing the whole time. From what he said that otter knew exactly how close it could get with room enough to escape that gator.

OUTSTANDING..!!
I'm a member of the Port Malabar Rifle and Pistol club in Palm Bay. The club grounds encompass something like 350 acres, with about 3,000 members. We have a website that lists a wide variety of shooting activities and events.
http://www.pmrpc.com/
On days there is a special event ( i.e.: IDPA, SASS, Trap, Blackpowder, NRA High Power, etc.) you only need to tell the guard at the gate you are there for the event to get in and participate.
These days, I'm doing a lot of muzzleloader shooting. The club has a dedicated BP range. We have a BP shoot on the 2nd and 4th Saturday every month. If that sort of thing interests you let me know when you're coming back down we'll burn some powder.
Oh, and btw: Be sure you bring that pretty lady with you next time you come to Florida. Our scenery is nice, but can always use improvement. :P

That's makes me sad, no snow with holiday lights! You and Sixgun should pack up and head down here, we'll see who can shoot the most crabs.

2ndovc, did you have any run ins with fire ants or other exotics?

Nope, sure didn't, very few bugs at all. At least where we were.
It's about 30 degrees here today, I'm ready to head back to the beach. :P

Well, here around Tampa ( nearest big city) they are expecting rain Friday evening and cooler Temps on Saturday. It looks like our winter will last about 3 days this year.
FWIW there's a 1000 yd range in Manatee county.
There's also a Hard Rock Cafe on the Seminole reservation in Tampa.
