Not exactly levergun specific but.....Milsurp gear projects

Post by wm »

Hello guys ....... its been awhile.

Anyway I picked up a couple of milsurp gear bargains that I thought a couple of you would appreciate hearing about.

First I bought 4 USGI M4 Gas mask bags for $12. I cut off the belt on it, and then cut that into four equal sections and fastened them into loops by over lapping the end and using super glue to glue the ends . Then I super glued the four loops on to the back of the gas mask bag to make a really nice butt pack. I even used the D ring from the belt on the loop furtherst away from the leg strap so that it can be quickly converted into a carry bag. Should be most useful for black powder hunting and has proven to be ideal for small game rimfire hunting.

Next I picked up some 40mm grenade holders for attaching to belts. These are open ended and by using some spare strap from my seemingly endless supply of stuff that I saved because it might some day be useful (its not junk I tell my wife just stuff I have yet to find a new purpose for!!!!) to form a bottom I have fashioned some useful and very secure hand gun magazine holders. I figure I have about $1.50 into each.

I included links to where I purchased these just as a convenience and so you can better picture what I described.

And one other item is the East German gas mask bags with the rain pattern camo........also a great butt pack that quickly and easily mates up to any common heavy duty belt like the USGI belt. These bags are really in expensive, brand new never issued, water proof and a great size.

WM, thanks for the heads up. Love a Mil Surp bargain. Used to have a Shoe Repair shop, and kept my Singer 29K71 patcher (big heavy duty free arm sewing machine for sewing patches on shoes/leather/canvas/. Should work at least as well as super glue).
This is plagiarized from someone else, but I love it!

I was born a gun owner.
It wasn't a choice.
I didn't become one later in life.
I was born this way.

Lot of people wasting their hard earned money buying the latest web gear, when a little ingenuity like you did will get them what they need cheaply. Milsurp web gear is usually very high end stuff, and can be found new or like new for a fraction of other sources.
The Czech 9 piece system that Coleman sells for under $30 will probably have more pieces than most hunters or hikers need, and better quality than most aftermarket new stuff.

Good on you!! Totally how things were done back when shooters took pride in using war surplus items in new applications for shooting gear.
