Since I've never seen one, have no idea of what they look like, and am currently too lazy to go do an interweb search! Took a tumble yesterday, and mighta broke my ankle... So, me and JD are getting re-acquainted... Pain is greatly lessened.

That is as fine a classic as I've ever seen.

Great. I love express sights too, and have them on some of my lever actions as well.
I have seen a couple of Ross sporters down here before but I dont remember the large magazine like you have. Is that normal or something special?

That is the standard style non detachable magazine for the 1910 R and E grade Ross sporters, there was also the 1910 M Ross SPorter with a flush style magazine normally in 280 ross though a few were made in 303 as well. The 1905 Ross rifles had a flush magazine as well.

Nice rifle. When afield with a classic gun, it's a pleasure to sometimes just have the gun in your hands and admire it. I've noticed things about my own favorite guns while quietly sitting and waiting for game that I've never seemed to notice while handling the gun in my gun room. There is just something special about being afield with a favorite gun, a classic gun, or a gun you have a sentimental attachment to. I just don't get excited by guns that are only hunting tools that have no soul to them.
Whether you fired your rifle or not during your hunt, I bet you enjoyed carrying it. I've been known to take pictures of my gun in the field too. It helps me commemorate a special hunt. Yesterday I decided it would be Fox Sterlingworth 12 gauge day for stocked pheasants at our club. My dad, my 16 year old son, and I all carried Fox's aging from 1914-1932. Two were family guns belonging to my grandfather and to my great uncle Milton. The pheasants didn't appreciate the difference, but we sure felt great using classics with a sentimental attachment.
