35 Rem Marlin pawnshop find/price check.

Post by WCF3030 »

I've a question for the Marlin-heads.

I went with my father this morning to the "honey hole" pawnshop were I've made some incredible buys looking for a Marlin in 35 Rem for my dad.
Now I did not get a SN# or do I have pics.
This Marlin has the same kind of stock as my 336T 30-30 but in a pistol grip. No Saftey, but did have the Big Warning letter stamped on the barrel.
The other marking was 336 35Rem. The tag did say Model 740 on it?
The out the door price is $319.00
The rifle is mint condition.
I will also add that there is no checkering and is the standard 20in barrel.

Would anyone know what kind this is?

319 seems a good price in general... but what do I know.

You check out that '94 in Kalamazoo for $275/OBO?

I've no doubt that it is a good price. I told him to get it, but you know how them retired people are.
I'm curious as too what model it is.
I know that when went to the sport shop across the road and they wanted $515.00 new for the 336.

Kalamazoo is about 100 South of me. But that sounds like a good price.

[The tag did say Model 740 on it?]

R U sure ? What was on the rifle ?

MOSSBERG made a Marlin-lookalike levergun in .30-30 & .35 that was (IIRC) the Model 472.

The Mossberg trigger travels with the lever, ala Winchester 88 or BLR.

Sounds like an early 1980s 336 to me if it has the warning, but no safety. I am not sure where they are getting the model 740 business. If it is in mint condition, that is a fair price. You might be able to get them down to $300 OTD. They are very nice rifles and you wont go wrong even for the asking price.

I'm pretty sure the "model 740" is a mis-print.
Did they make the real slim forearm and stock in the 80's?

I think it is a Western Field made by marlin.

They made relatively slim foreends in the 1980s, but not as slim as the ones made in the 1960s. If it has a warning on the barrel, it is from the 80s or late 70s at the earliest.
