Stopped by the range yesterday morning to try out the Sharps. I didn't have a lot of time but couldn't wait to see how it shoots.
I started with some light target loads at 25 yds offhand. The target on the right was a 350 gr. LFP w/ 12 grains of Unique. Those were a blast!
Moved back to fifty yards and some 405 grain Cast Performance WNLFP gas checked bullets and 48 grains of Varget. Those Varget loads really have a bark to them even with a fairly heavy rifle. Interesting thing was it was the same hold and sight picture for both distances. Once I get the sights replaced I'll alke it back to 100 yards and have some more fun.

Jason, that is a mighty handsome carbine. I must have missed earlier posts. It is a Big Timber Sharps? A Pedersoli? Most of my Sharps time has been spent with the latter brand, and they always had excellent barrels.

Hey Bill,
It is a Pedersoli imported by Navy Arms. No ideal how old it is but I don't think it's been fired more than a couple times. The sights are horrendous but not a big deal to replace them. With the ladder sight up it shoots about 18" at 25 yds ( I know it's supposed to but is a better sight picture) but down is right on. the problem is that they are so tiny it's really hard to see.
So far I've had nothing but good luck with the Italian guns, all of them have shot really well. Don't think I've ever owned a .45-70 that didn't shoot well.
Just feeding the single shot addiction. I've had Martinis forever but with the Uberti 1885 I bought a couple months ago I've been on the hunt for a .45-70 and this was perfect.

Jason,
That's a nice carbine. I'd love to try it out, looks like fun.
I like those red targets too. Where do you get those?

Beautiful!. What sort of FPS are you getting with that Varget load? It sounds like a real barn-burner

Re: The new Sharps will shoot too!
Joe,
I picked up the targets at a flea market last summer. I really wish I had bought more. They were only a buck or two and printed on really heavy paper which I didn't notice until opened the package when I got home. Probably going to have to wait until spring to get some more.
Thanks for the nice words everyone. I really like this one!
