Had to say goodbye to a great Lady

Post by 2ndovc »

We lost my Mom this morning after a long hard fight at 74. After a broken hip, heart surgery and multiple other things she had a "Coronary Event" Wednesday morning and never regained consciousness. Her heart just stopped. She went ten to twenty minutes without breathing and just couldn't recover. After numerous tests and specialists confirming what we already knew I had her taken off life support last night. I stayed with her for most of the night and left for just a couple hours but had a feeling that I needed to get back around 4:30 this morning. An old friend of the family had been sitting with her for awhile to give us a little break. We were chatting for a couple hours and just before 8:30 this morning she died very peacefully. We know she's no longer in pain and we'll forever be grateful to have grown up in a very loving and supportive home. Mom was a social worker for most of her life and even after retiring from thirty years of working for Children's Services she couldn't stop looking after people in need and spent another ten years working for a homeless shelter. She was a wonderful person but a force to be reckoned with if she thought you were up to something. A fearless woman with an amazing spirit that was inspiring to many.

She will be missed but I feel very fortunate that she was my mom.

Take care of yourselves and your families my friends. Life is too short.

Sorry to hear of your loss. Sounds like she had a good 74 years.

A life well-lived is a beautiful thing (even if too short), and it looks like she did just that.

That is actually something to celebrate, if you think about it.

Still, you will miss her, even as she lives within you forever.

Prayers that all your family will deal with her passing as well as possible.

Yes. It sounds as she had a life well lived. May she Rest In Peace, and may all those she left behind find comfort. Prayers sent.

Thanks for the words everyone. This has been hard on us all but we'll get through it.

It's going to be a busy and sad time but she even made sure that would be easy for me. She was always so organized.

Take care guys!

Jason -- what the others have said. It sounds to me like your Mom was one of those shining souls who gets a bear hug and a "Well done" from our dear Creator when she goes home. I have been around long enough and seen enough of the end of life to know that there can be as much or more light as there is darkness in a passing -- and in the shared burden of love and sadness that draws together those who are left behind to warm themselves in the memories of someone they loved -- and who loved them. Blessings in each day ahead.
