Steam Train footage

Some steam-train footage - https://youtu.be/tZlFPsCc4y0

Just came across while surfing YouTube.

Certainly makes one curious about what the "old-days" might have been like.

Government office attracts the power-mad, yet it's people who just want to be left alone to live life on their own terms who are considered dangerous.

History teaches that it's a small window in which people can fight back before it is too dangerous to fight back.

It would have been easier as they would just have connected up more engines. Just like they do today when they need to pull a tight curve or long grade.

I would like to have seen those steam gauges. She sat they for quite a bit firing that boiler hard.

Those 4-8-4 trains were pretty powerful. There were bigger ones, but that was cool.

The Brits were so wise to hold onto their steam heritage. Beautiful machines with personalities unlike our grimy diesels.

Speaking of British steamers, here's a video I found enjoyable.

I love trains and try to ride one every chance I get but the one I keep going back to runs from Chama New Mexico to Antonito Colorado over the Cumbres Pass. Usually leaves Chama with two engines fired for the grade out of Chama. Really awesome to hear them pulling so hard and on the edge of traction using sanders.

Weren't the sanders where we get the term "The real McCoy"?

Was fortunate enough to get to run the N&W 611 on its way to Roanoke in 1993. Beautiful machine. Rode better than the diesels I normally ran. Was probably the height of my railroad career.

My wife and I took our 3yr old grandson to Durango to ride the train to Silverton this summer. It was a sweet moment for us as 23yrs ago we took his father there when he was 3 and rode the train. So it was deja vu for us. We had bought our son one of those railroad hats 23yrs ago and my wife saved it all these years and our grandson wore it on the train. The train at Chama is on our list also. God Bless.⛪
