I guess it was my turn

Post by Rusty »

I had shoulder replacement surgery and won't be able to drive for another month So Jr came by today to drive me out so we could go to lunch. On the way back we stopped at a new gun shop that just opened, 3 miles from the house. Jr walks over and says what's that and points to what at first looked to be a sporterized military rifle. The counter man says it's Polish. Having never seen one before I said what? He says yep, a .22 trainer. I could barely see the hang tag, it looked like $135. I told Jr. you need to buy it. He says I'm getting ready for hunting season, I don' t have any extra money. I said then I'll take it, go home and get my cash while I do the paperwork. Off goes Jr. while I start writing. The guy working the counter says that not the right tag. Further up near the front sight was another tag that said... drum roll. $115.
I asked him, are you sure? He says yea, this is the right tag. So I got a mint looking 1949 Polish trainer with the Archer markings on it for $115. I didn't know you could buy anything for $115 these days.

That's a real deal! My guess is they didn't know what it was. I'm sure you both will have a lot of fun with it. They were never issued with a sling but a Mosin dog collar one or the ones with the straps & buckles work fine and there are a lot of those out there that were made in Poland and are like new. I bought one many years ago and when I brought it in the door my wife saw it from across the room and told me what it was. Back when Poland was behind the Iron Curtain all the students, male and female, were required to have some military training and she had spent time on the range with one. Heck, she knew more about Polish firearms than I did.

Good for you Rusty, that should do a good job on the bushy tails hiding in the oaks under the Spanish moss.

$115 is a steal!! Those little rifles are usually quite accurate. Let me know when you get tired of it. :D

Rusty -

I'm happy you found such a great deal! We all deserve one of those once in a while. Like you, I didn't think it was possible to find anything shoot-able for $115 any more!

Oh, and thank you for your comments on my wife's Facebook regarding my daughter's homecoming night. Spot on! I told her that when she starts dating, the boy needs to stop over first for me to meet him. I will introduce him to "Mr. Bowie" and explain that he will be singing soprano if he hurts her or touches her inappropriately - and I have lots of friend with land to hide the "parts!

I stopped using FB over 5 years ago when I became a manager. Figured it would eventually catch up to me. I still need to kill the account though...
