I can barely remember, way back when, I had sports figures that I looked up to. I suspect that the criminal Pete Rose was the first crack in my wall of ignorance. I had already brushed aside the NBA Thugs.

A hero indeed! But so are all the other fine men who came back in one piece, or didn't make it back alive! All who serve their country are much more a hero than any pro athlete!

As far as I'm concerned pro athletes are all a bunch of over paid pre madonnas! They all live in the lap of luxury until they retire and go broke. I have no use for ANY pro athlete!
Now our men & women in uniform, whether Army, Navy, Marine, Coast Guard and our police deserve our respect and they should be the ones making a whole lot more than they do!

+1

I have the patches from each of the branches of the military on my range bag, along with military service flags on my desk and in my basement. When asked, I tell people that I display them for the same reason others show sports-related items or wear jerseys... except my heroes are real and deserve the honor!!!

I would agree with this with the exception of a couple of NFL players I have known and worked with before they made it into the NFL.
