Dumpster Dilemma

Post by AJMD429 »

We got a 30 ft dumpster placed when we re-did our leaking roof (a three-year do-it-yourself project), and since we're done, we called to have it picked up....

We asked if they could pick it up last Wednesday, and they said they couldn't guarantee a time.......OR even guarantee the day.....we have to give them an entire open week to do so; they will charge us for a failed pickup if we aren't home when they arrive. We are almost never home all day, and we are definitely not home all day, five days in a row (of course weekends they won't do either).

I guess I need to empty it, put a roof on it, and use it for storage.... :|

Dumpster companies are all alike I guess.
I've never seen one get picked up in a timely fashion!
Although I can't see why you must be there other than to pay the driver.

When we see gone two different alarms are set, and the dogs are loosed. No exceptions. The dumpster is by the house, so it is in the dog zone.

I guess I can count myself among the fortunate, as a close friend of my Son owns/operates a dumpster service, and I've gotten my dumpsters dropped off & picked up for the bubble (two different times, over the years).

Can you pay in advance and just let them pickup at their convenience?

I needed TWO 30 yard dumpsters when I cleaned my fathers house out, not to mention 4 pickup loads to the dumps, about 300 black garbage bags the village took away, and whatever the neighbors wanted. But I digress, It was right after Sandy and dumpsters were in high demand, they couldn't wait to pickup so they could gouge somebody else, make a call and they were there within an hour... lol

Why does someone have to be there? To prevent some dumpster thief from coming by and stealing it?

I'll guarantee, someone comes by and says they're taking a 30' dumpster and they have the truck to do it, it's theirs. I'm not stopping them.

Gotcha! I miss read/ understood your post, thought the dumpster company required you to be there.

Sounds simple to me. Get somebody to come over and be there when you can't be. Otherwise you've got a permanent dumpster addition to the property.
