A little shootin' today

Post by 2ndovc »

Had a few minutes to shoot a couple 1911s today. I've had the Argentine 1927 for a couple months and picked up the Officer's ACP yesterday. I've wanted an Officer's .45 for years and couldn't pass this one up for the price. I'm really pleased with how it shoots. It's a little heavier and about a 1/2" longer than my Defender but it's much easier to shoot accurately. I was shooting Rem. 230 gr. FMJs at 15 yds and I know it will do better with a little practice on my part. The Argentine System 27 worked perfectly as well. I was having a hard time with the sights. With my vision issues I could either wear my glasses and see the sights or go without and see the target. That tiny A1 style front sight was really hard to see. :D I'm still searching for the correct grips for it but I'll come across a pair sooner or later..

Looks like fun... 8)

An 'officer model' version of those full-size grips would sure look slick on the little gun, though...!

Yep...learning the 1911 is a whole 'nuther smoke........my hand was molded for an n-frame Smith with a single action Colt running a very close second. Try some 200 swc and 5 grains of 231 or Bullseye.---6

Hey Jack,

That's pretty close to one of my favorites, 4.8 grains of Bullseye and a 230 FMJ. Grew up shooting box after box of 185 SWCs and my Dads 1911A1.
It wasn't the pistols shooting big groups just my eyes. The big black sights on the National Match make things a little easier. :D

That little Colt really chews the middle out, doesn't it? My fave load is 200 grain H&G 68 over 5.5 grains of 231. Makes major easily.

It looks like you shoot better with the straight mainspring housing - switch out the Argie's arched housing ?

I have vision somewhat like yours, but when I installed an XS front sight on my Lightweight Commander, things improved a lot, because I could still see the front sight while I was focusing on the target.

Nope, the 1927 is going to stay as is. It's all matching and no import marks. I'm betting those funky grips have been on it for a long time but will have to go when I find some originals. It's going in the display case with the WWI 1911 and I'll replace my A1 eventually.

I like those XS sights. I've been looking at different options today. Shot well today with some 200 gr. XTPs that were more centered. Definitely going to upgrade the sights and the grips. I'm liking this one much more than the Defender, It's a nice pistol but may not keep it. Who knows.

Ive had this Colt series 70 since 1975....my first legally purchased handgun......I was just a punk of 21.......still a punk.......Sol Weisenfield, master stockmaker for Colt (was retired by then) personally made me the elephant ivories the same year and used pre war nickel silver medallions of which he had a box full.......$36.....yes, not a typo, $36. He told me he used the outer part of the tusk that shows the grain......they have since beautifully aged.

This gun has a recorded 3915 rounds out of it and still looks 98%.-----6

That's a beauty Jack!!

My Dad has a set of ivory grips on a custom 1911A1 that he had done in the '50s. The grips were given to him by an old insurance agent he had done a lot of work for over the years. He had been in the British army and had bought the grips in India. They're carved in a double diamond pattern and are just stunning!
