S&W .22 kit DOM and HV ammo ?

Post by 1894 »

Recently inherited a S&W 22/32 kit gun ( in .22 lr ) 4" blued , square .
Ser # is 471xx .
Is this revolver old enough to to be concerned about using modern Hi-Vel ammo in it ?

Is this an I frame or J frame ? Is the S/N stamped on the butt of the grip frame ?

Nice looking piece, bet it shoots as good as it looks. Tod3/leg
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

It is a J Frame, looks to be a 1960-70 piece. I have one also. HV ammo is just fine. One of the best 22's S&W produced. A very accurate piece.
The I frame was before 1952.

Thank you all for the help ! The pistol came with a couple boxes of standard vel. ammo , that is what made me question the age / strength. My time on this rock is almost up and I am trying to make sure my wife has as much info about our firearms as I can give her.
