Been a hard few weeks

Post by jeepnik »

I guess I'm just getting to the age where loved ones start to fade away. I lost a female cousin to cancer about a month ago, my eldest male cousin (this guy did three tours in Viet Nam and almost 30 in the Corps, I thought he would never die) also to cancer. Now I just heard that my last uncle has passed. And with that passing the "Greatest Generation" lost one of its truly greatest.

Not looking for sympathy because it was time for all to go, but just wanted to vent a bit. Thanks for listening.

My Mom always said "things happen in threes".....in July of '09 My oldest friends Father passed away. less than a month later Mom passed from complications of surgery and the very next day a co-worker (61 years old) died on the way to work from a blockage in one of the arteries in His neck. It's tough all around. Stay Strong.

Sorry for your losses. A friend of mine lost his 18 y/o daughter to cancer on Sunday. Sometimes it seems the Reaper is a little too busy.

Life is a storm, my young friend. You will bask in the sunlight one moment, be shattered on the rocks the next. What makes you a man is what you do when that storm comes.

Tough to lose anyone. It sounds as if your relatives had some very full lives. I lost an uncle last January. He was 101, and flew 59 missions in a B24J in the South Pacific. More than once he came back with a plane that just refused to die before getting home. B24 bombers were not supposed to be able to make it back with only one engine working and half of the tail shot off and the landing gear shot off. Twice he had planes make it back with only him and one other crew member alive. Once he had to make a belly landing with a gunner alive but stuck where he couldn't get out because a round had jammed the hatch shut. The gunner told the other surviving crew that it was his choice that they save the rest of the crew with a belly landing. The landing gear was so badly damaged that they couldn't even deploy it with the hand cranks. Like others who saw combat, my uncle saw some things that no one should have to see. It is sad to lose them, but it good to remember what they have done.

Going through a rough patch myself. Deaths not involved, unless you count the death of a marriage. Wishing you bright sunshine and a level trail.
