How many here remember the old sixgunner site?

Post by Bill in Oregon »

Got to thinking that there was a lot of crossover between the members of these two fine online communities. I never did know why sixgunners went away.

Harold, seems to me there were quite a few "characters" on that board, including a fella from Texas whose name I have forgotten who used to keep me in stitches. Some good folks.

They had a lot of good articles on there.
30/30 Winchester: Not accurate enough fer varmints, barely adequate for small deer; BUT In a 10" to 14" barrelled pistol; is good for moose/elk to 200 yards; ground squirrels to 300 metres

Never did sign up but I did enjoy the good reading there.

I loved reading the articles when they had it up and running. When it switched over all of the articles disappeared for some time until a site called "fiveshot.org" was created by a few shootist members carried over most of the articles to the site. Unfortunately that site is no longer active :| .

Great site if you were looking for information or something to do, NOT such a great site if you were on a budget or trying to save money for house type projects. Viewing fine guns can lead to less room in the safe and financial difficulties, not to mention feuds with the other half.

I remember it well .. was there from the first. The webmaster could be a pain in the rear but he knew a lot of folks in the industry and it all came together nicely. I heard he had to sell the domain for some pressing personal reasons and those who took it over just did not keep it going in the same way.

UNfortunately, if a site does not have an updated search feature, it is darn-near useless in 2017.

Too bad, as there are lots of informative articles and posts that cannot be easily referenced due to outdated support software that way...

Ah, the good old days: archive.org has copies of the original site. Those circa 2000 I can remember.
