trip update

Post by Grizz »

home in Chico, boat is in Port Angeles. doing a "turn-around", switching from the escaping the columbia and rounding Flattery phase to the "inside passage" phase. A couple more days and I should be starting to restart the voyage of discovery.

The Lord has been very gracious to me, throwing in the occasional miracle to keep me alive. Conditions have been challenging and I've learned a lot, some of which involves changes in fuel management, etc.

The odometer, my garmin car unit, is around 550 statute miles, although in the saltwater I use nautical miles, because they're real.

I left the thumb drive with thousands of photos on the boat, so nothing to offer.

My son and his family gave me a satellite phone so the cellphone outages aren't interrupting our ability to stay in contact. I thanked them profusely and said that my dream of going to antartica is closer to reality because satellite phones are a requirement to go there.

It has been very good going to sea again. Therapeutic. Not sailing very much, it's been mostly a motorboat trip so far, although the times I could hoist some sail Ariel settled down and got more comfortable. Imagine that.

Imagine rounding Flattery in a blind fog, passing within a quarter mile of Tatoosh Island, and not seeing a thing but grey seas under and grey fog surrounding.

I hope all is well with you guys. In a few days my progress toward 57degrees, 57minutes North should resume. A lot of that will seem familiar from prior trips, but it is a lot of water to part.

God Bless Y'All

Thank god for GPS. I remember dead reconing in heavy fog with only a compass. That is no fun at all. Have a great trip.

naturally the quick turn around isn't so quick, however I plan to return to boat life tomorrow, that is Wed Jun 07, for the beginning of the long leg.

thank you for responding and for wishes and prayers. it counts for a lot in the long stretches. I know you would like to see some photos, so I'll close with some.

God Bless, de Grizz
