Surgery, prayers requested. The morning after.

Post by J Miller »

I wasn't feeling well last month, had a reaction to some meds the urologist gave me. Not sure if it was a direct reaction to those meds, or weather they reacted to some I was already taking. At any rate once I quit taking them the symptoms quit.
Then when coming out of that I noticed my butt hurt. I thought it was raw from the horrid bout of diarrhea I had during the reaction of the meds, but no, it couldn't be that simple. Middle of last month my wife noticed I had blood on my underwear. We found (she did) a swelling just above the anus, she said my behind looked all bruised. The next day it ruptured. OH what a mess! I called the family doc who wasn't in till the next Monday. That was March 20th. He diagnosed it as a "Peri Rectal Abscess". Said if it didn't clear up that I'd need to go see a Colo-Rectal specialist and prescribed an antibiotic.

I was scheduled, again, for the pre-surgery exam for the cervical surgery so I called them to see if they still wanted me to come in. NO, they said we don't want to see you till it's cleared up, and the nurse I talked to knew exactly what a Peri-rectal abscess is and strongly suggested that I not wait, that I get myself to the Colo-rectal doctor.
Neck surgery postponed again :( :x . This is crippling me ... literally.

Called Fam Doc back and they suggested a DR to go to. Got the apt.
When the Colo-rectal doctor examined me his comment was: "It will have to be fixed". Apparently this abscess has been growing there for a very long time and when it finally ruptured it left a fistula (tunnel) from the inside of the colon to the exterior of the body.
He said it would not heal without surgery and would continue to infect and cause trouble.
He said that the surgery was an out patient and I'd go home the dame day. Then he said, since I have to knock you out anyway, now would be a good time to do a colonoscopy. OK, sounds like a plan to me. It's been almost 10 years since the last one.

So today I am not allowed to eat anything, and later this afternoon I got to start drinking the cleansing solution ...
Sure as I can knew it would be, I"M STARVING!!!!! ARRRGGGHHHH!!!!!!!!!!

So this is one of the reasons my wife posted the thread where she said she wanted to rant but couldn't put it into words.
Some of the other things are; our lease is up the last of June and we do not want to stay in this house, neighborhood or city. there has been at least 7 shootings with at least 2 fatalities within blocks of us. It looks like the gangs are moving in and we don't want any of it.

The other thing is that when we do move we are going to need physical help because I am out of commission.

So I'm just asking for prayers that the Good Lord will guide the surgeons hand tomorrow and then that this neck surgery can be done soon.
And that he could help us find a new place to move to that is decent and affordable, and someone(s) to help us move.

Sorry for long novel, and thanks.

Joe

Joe,
Very sorry to hear what you are going through,

I will be saying prayers for a successful operation and a quick recovery,
Make sure that you drink plenty of fluids WATER/ juice/unsweetened tea, coffee.NO sodas....well OK 1 soda for every 6 glasses of the good stuff.
That will help the healing process.
ALSO, minimize p1rocessed snack consumption and eat live food...apples, banana, veggies.
Your body will heal more quickly.

Home now. Surgery done. Got to rest. Phone message on phone's voice mail wants me to return to hospital tomorrow for more blood work. That sounds kind of ominous.

I don't feel terribly bad, just very tired.
Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes.

Thanks for all the good wishes and prayers I really do appreciate them..

I had a fairly good nights sleep after I finally broke down and took the pain meds the Doc prescribed. A Hydrocodone-Acetaminophen combo. That knocked the edge off enough I could come down and finally get to sleep.

This morning my butt hurts. Feels like the Rotor Rooter man reamed me out with a pluming snake. The Dr did quite a bit of work inside my colon. Removed the fistula caused by the abscess, fixed a hemorrhoid, and removed 4 polyps, one large one, that he told my wife were not cancerous, but if not removed, could have gone that way.

Yesterday before we headed to the hospital, I caught my wife eating a gorgeous donut ... gurrrrrr ... I hadn't had any food since super on Sunday, so I was quite hungry. Last night I ate two of them :).
Wifie bought a couple nice juicy chicken breasts at the store on the way home for a nibble, then made some hamburger and rice for supper. That's reasonably easy to eat, and easy on the insides.

Gonna take a bit to heal up, have to go back for a check up in 12 days, and the hospital called yesterday and wants me to come back to the hospital for something regarding the blood work.
ETA: Blood work is because some klutzy lab tech got some of my blood on him and they are not sure if I contaminated him  . The operating team got the lab results so they have those results. What more do they want?

A funny story from last night.
About 8:00 my wife headed back over to the CVS Pharmacy to get my prescriptions that we had dropped off on the way home. When several blocks from the house she stopped at an intersection because of a car coming towards her with no lights on. After that car passed she turned on the turn signal (she was at a complete stop here) then made the turn and continued on her way. She noticed a white car behind her but didn't think much of it till it lit up like a Christmas tree. When she pulled over she saw one cop walking up behind the passenger side of of the Pathfinder. That took her attention off the cop walking up the drivers side and he startled her.
He wanted her drivers license and told her he pulled her over because she didn't signal 200 feet before the turn. A bogus reason considering she was at a dead stop due to an unlit oncoming car. Then she noticed the other cop checking out the insides of the Pathfinder. Cop looked at her license, asked her if she lived around here, she said yes, then he handed her license back to her and sent her on her way.
They were looking for something / somebody, that's for sure. We've lived in this neighborhood for two years and lately we seem to be the center of attention for too many people. A sure sign we are the wrong demographic for this area and really do need to get the he!! outa here.

Wait, Joe.

That story about the traffic stop and conclusion that you need to leave the area...
Didn't you just leave the area by Chicago, the crime ridden breeding grounds for the largest group of corrupt politicians in our history?

Where could you be that is worse than there in this country?

John,

We left Springfield, IL and came here because we wanted out of IL and my wife has family here. Turns out the sister has been more of a burden than her help is worth.

Our income does not lend itself to paying high rents, and our credit score is too low to actually buy.

Caught between a rock and a hard place. So far the only benefit of being here is the Doctors are better.

We have a goal, but we need a better house, pet friendly, out of the city, for a price we can afford. Then a couple years to work on the credit thing and to put back a grub stake.

Not too bad I guess. Still a bit of pain and seepage at the point where the abscess ruptured. We called the Dr's office and was told that is normal as it was a large fistula and would take time to heal.
I suspect I'm just pushing it cos I hate being uncomfortable.
We have an apt for a checkup tomorrow and will see just how good or not I'm really doing.
